FAQs
Make sure you’re baking your bread pudding long enough. If you don’t let it cook for the entire bake time, you may find the mixture hasn’t set yet and is runny.
Use Your Slow Cooker Like a Warming Oven
The experts at Crockpot share, “Sides dishes, buns, dessert, and more can be kept warm at your ideal temperature until it is ready to be served.”
Cover the surface of the pudding with a round piece of parchment and refrigerate until the pudding reaches 45 degrees F, approximately 2 hours.
In a phone interview with Cooking Light, Crock-Pot customer service said it’s safe to leave your slow cooker unattended on a low setting for several hours—even if you’re not at home. Their FAQ section confirms this. “Crock-Pot® Slow Cookers are safe for countertop cooking for extended periods of time.
Think you couldn’t love your slow cooker more? Well, it turns out you can use this appliance to proof bread dough. Fill your slow cooker halfway with water and set to the low setting (which will heat the water to about 200ºF). Put the lid on upside down, lay a dishtowel on top, then set your bowl of dough on top.
Don’t leave it on ‘warm’ all day
Most appliances will automatically shut off after 20 or so hours on this setting, but you shouldn’t leave food in a slow cooker for an extended length of time. The general rule of thumb is that two to four hours is the maximum length of time you can leave food in a slow cooker on warm.
