This is the first Hamilton Beach item I have bought in over 20 years. Their line of appliances got a horrible name back in the ’80’s for poor quality. However, after reading all the reviews and doing my research this was the model of toaster that had all the bells and whistles I wanted and was the right price. Having used a toaster oven, then an air frier oven, my toast over the past several years has been rather dry since both types of toasters take up to 10 minutes to cook, drying the bread. I love eating toast cooked over an open flame, which crisps the outside, but leaves the inside warm and chewy. A toaster doesn’t do it for me, so I frustration I went ahead and bought this toaster. Yes, the first slices of bread out are a little unevenly toasted, but I have noticed that when I use it for more than the original two slices, the next sets are perfect and it only takes about 2 minutes to cook, leaving the outside crispy and the inside soft, warm and chewy. I am delighted with it.
It is very efficient and easy to use. My husband likes bagels so he enjoys the aspect that it has a bagel setting. The degree of darkness for the toast is easy to set. Cleaning is great. I would recommend to anyone.

It is perfect for me and my husband. We are not breakfast eaters so we never bought another toaster after our first toaster we got for a wedding present in 1977 was finally put to rest. So if I needed toast I would make it in the oven. But we had company, and they loved toast and toasted bagels for breakfast… so I bought this. Perfect!!!! Slats are big enough for bagels. We used it every day. Looks nice and works great!

Size was most important to me. I keep in a cupboard and pull out for use. Great size and lightweight for that. Defrost feature was a pleasant surprise. It defrosts the bread then toasts, both in one session. No defrost then separate toast. Great purchase for me!
