The Ninja OL601 XL Steam Fryer with Smart Lid is a more affordable alternative to the Ninja OL701 Steam Fryer. The ingenious lid design of the brand’s line of steam fryers is what I appreciate most. They are the first to introduce an integrated air fryer and pressure cooker lid.
In the past, Instant Pot has been the market leader in this category, but now Ninja has taken the lead. I’m confident they’ll catch up soon. I will update this review when that occurs.
Switching between lids is a tremendous hassle when attempting to combine two cooking techniques with a single dish. With older models, if you wanted to pressure cook a whole chicken and finish it with crispy skin, you would need two separate lids.
No longer is this the case for the Ninja Steam Fryer Family? The only drawback of the Ninja OL601 is the absence of hands-free venting and an integrated meat thermometer. For me, these were deal-breakers. Check out the Ninja Foodi OL701 for yourself and judge for yourself.
However, if you wish to save a few dollars, I will not discourage you from purchasing the Ninja XL Steam Fryer. Although I enjoy the Ninja OL601, I would recommend the Ninja OL701 Steam Fryer instead. The built-in thermometer and automatic pressure release will make cooking safer, more efficient, and more enjoyable.
