Design

Compared to other air fryers, the Instant Vortex Plus is a bit on the large side. It measures 12.83 by 14.92 by 12.36 inches (32.6 by 37.9 by 31.4 cm) (h x w x d).  

With a capacity of 6 quarts (5.7 L), it can hold enough food to replace a few of your other kitchen gadgets. Thanks to its many cooking methods (including air-frying, roasting, baking, and reheating), you won’t have to worry about running out of counter space. 

Instant Vortex Plus 6-in-1 Air Fryer retains the square shape, including the square basket and dishwasher-safe crisper tray, but adds a brushed stainless steel finish, though it is not as fingerprint-resistant as one might hope. 

It, too, has the same touchscreen but with six rather than four presets. Additionally, there are time and temperature buttons and a stainless steel dial, all of which are easily cleaned with a damp cloth. The air fryer has a maximum temperature of 400F / 205C and a cooking time of up to one hour, which means you can prepare a wide variety of dishes. 

Performance 

The instructions include a single page devoted to cooking, details the predetermined duration and temperature. As a result, it is not prescriptive but instead allows for experimentation. 

Fortunately, the model is straightforward to assemble, as it consists of only three components: the cooker, the air fryer basket, and the pull-out tray. The only assembly required is slotting the cooking tray into the basket, aided by a carry loop and scratch-resistant silicone corners. 

Two indents beneath its outer casing make it simple to move it around the counter. Additionally, its non-slip feet are highly effective.

We were pleasantly surprised by Instant Vortex Plus’s cooking abilities. The homemade fries, which required only two teaspoons of oil for a 1.1lb / 500g batch, and the chicken wings were evenly browned in less than 20 minutes.  

The fries had a crisp exterior that provided a satisfying crunch upon biting and a fluffy, soft potato interior. Similarly, the chicken wings had crispy skin but succulent meat. We used the recommended temperature and timings from the Instant Pot app, and there was no need to adjust them because the results were spot on. 

As with other air fryers, Instant Vortex Plus significantly reduces cooking times, with chicken wings cooking nearly half the time they would in a conventional oven.  

We also cooked 1.1lb / 500g of frozen steak-cut fries in the air fryer, and while they were not as crisp as the homemade fries, they were evenly browned and ready in 15 minutes, less than half the time recommended for a conventional oven. 

Cleaning 

There is a removable cooking tray inside the unit for cleaning, and the rest of the appliance is easily wiped clean when finished. Due to the lack of visible oil, the Vortex is relatively easy to keep clean. That is always an added benefit.
