Latkes Potato Pancakes

Shredded onion and potato combined with egg, pepper, salt, and flour. Pancakes formed and fried in hot oil until golden brown on both sides. Served with sour cream and applesauce.


  • 2 Large Potatoes, peeled
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 dash Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/3 cup Flour
  • 1/2 cup Water


  1. Place the potatoes, onions and some water in a food processor.
  2. Shred, remove and drain with paper towels in a colander.
  3. In a separate bowl, add the egg, pepper and salt and beat until combined.
  4. Add the flour and stir to combine.
  5. Make pancakes with the batter and fry over medium high heat until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Serve with sour cream or applesauce.

Pancake Making Tips – Sourdough Starter

  • Sourdough starter can be used in batter to make a slightly thin, delicious pancake.
  • Starter can be bought either online or at the grocery store, or a homemade starter can be used.
  • To make sourdough starter, mix flour, sugar and yeast until blended, then add warm water.
  • Starter can be refrigerated or frozen and lasts for years.
