Before I made this purchase, I researched breadmakers and bread machines everywhere I could–in books, on websites about breadmaking and flours, at Amazon (where the reviews are always the most enlightening), at retailers online, and in brick & mortar stores. Analysis of the qualities of this Zoji led me to make this purchase and I was lucky enough to make my decision when the price was as right as it was going to get. Quite obviously, the Zoji isn’t cheap, but it is a great value. And value matters more to me in the long run.QUALITIES THAT SOLD ME: HORIZONTAL BREAD PAN, 2 KNEADING PADDLES, GREAT TEMPERATURE CONTROLThe main qualities of this Zoji that finally convinced me were the longer, more horizontal bread pan, the two kneading paddles, and the detail about temperatures and times for each phase of the Zoji process (these are available in the Zoji manual on their website). Great bread and a great machine. About a year ago we bought a Breadman Pro breadmaker, which was OK. But it has started to have the spindle for the paddle fall out, which can be a bit awkward if it happens at the wrong time. Parts are hard to find, so I decided to get another breadmaker. When I was looking last year, I was very taken by this Zojirushi, but we got the Breadman Pro locally for about $50, so we went with that.The Zojirushi arrived very quickly and in good order. I washed the pan and paddles, set it up, and decided to try the Basic White loaf. Result: a really good loaf of bread. The best I’ve ever tasted? No, but very, very good!Comparisons. The Zojirushi is much, much quieter in operation. Very quiet, in fact, which is much appreciated. I am careful with my measurements for bread, but I got this loaf as a far better 2 lb. loaf than the Breadman Pro could do. The shape was better, it had a nice crust (I think it was the butter), and was more even within in terms of texture and form. The two smaller paddles came out of the loaf very cleanly and left far less disturbance than in the Breadman Pro (which has one larger paddle). And the indentations were crusted, rather than torn bread.The larger pan of the Zojirushi allows a 2 lb. loaf that is longer (about 1.5 inches) and so not as high as the Breadman Pro. It doesn’t spill over the sides of the pan. The shape fits nicely into the bread cutting form we have, so we can slice it nicely. At present, sandwiches for all 5 of us for lunch consumes a whole loaf, less a couple of slices, so this longer loaf will allow us more slices per loaf. I had cut back to 1.5 lb loaves with the Breadman Pro, as the shape of the top of the 2 lb. loaves wasn’t good for cutting and using for sandwiches, but these 2 lb. loaves will do us very nicely.Still to be tested is whole wheat bread and various specialty recipes. As noted in other reviews, you do need to get the paddles out when washing the pan, but the non-stick surface makes this easy. The non-stick material on the 6 rivet heads on the base of the pan seems a little less effective, and a little material may adhere to the spindles, but these are simple checks you washed it properly. I don’t think I’ve had a time where a paddle has stayed in a loaf, as they seem to bake a crust around themselves. Bakes good bread. I bought this after returning a Cuisinart bread maker in which the convection fan worked intermittently. So far this machine operates a lot more quietly and makes really nice bread. The biggest difference I found is the recipes use a lot more sugar than the Cuisinart recipes. I have decreased the amount of sugar by 2/3, and the loaves are turning out really well. I also like the fact that the bread easily tips out from the pan and that the paddle stays attached to the pan. Very easy to clean. If you can afford to spend a little more this is a very good bread maker.

I bought mine (Zojirushi BB-CEC20WB Home Bakery Supreme, White) three weeks ago. Before that, I had a few other bread makers (vertical Philips Deluxe, Horizontal Philips, Tefal home breadbaguette bread maker) and had a close look at pretty much every model available at Sears, Canadian Tire, Walmart, Costco and Zellers (Cuisinart, B&D, West Bend and so on). Most bread maker models had a remarkably low quality with poor design, disgusting appearance, cheap knobs falling out or in, poor coating, sharp edges, aluminum or plastic transmissions and even plastic kneading blades (!). Before Tefal, I also bought the famous Kitchen Aid mixer, quite advanced, expensive and powerful (600 Wt) model, but, surprisingly, it could not prepare whole wheat dough properly, the process was quite messy, aluminum hook etc., so I returned it back to the store. In between, I was making bread manually. Thus, my impression is that for making bread and moderate amounts of dough, a good bread maker seems to be the best choice.To my experience, the main problem with more or less decent bread makers, like Horizontal Philips or Tefal baguette, is that even though the bread maker itself still works fine, the companies are no longer supplying spare parts, particularly bread pans and paddles. So after a while, usually when the bread pan starts leaking in a year or two, the whole machine becomes almost useless.Thus, having spare parts was a big plus for considering Zojirushi. Yet another was composing custom programs. The price… Well, Tefal cost $199 ($149 on sale) when I bought it, Horizontal Philips was $149. Zojirushi cost $214, now it costs $189. There is some difference indeed, but Zojirushi design is far superiour.Now some of my impressions.First of all, the Zojirushi unit is very well balanced and is NOT moving during kneading. Most other bread makers I tried, except Tefal baguette, tended to move (which means a good chance of falling off the shelf or table, running into something, falling into the kitchen sink filled with water and dishes, plugging themselves out and so on).The Zojirushi is quiet. In fact, this is probably the least noisy bread maker I have used.The unit is decently designed. It fits nicely under the kitchen shelves. The lead does NOT tend to fall onto your fingers when you open the bread maker. By the way, Tefal baguette rack fits well into Zojirushi, too.Zojirushi remembers not only the last program used, but also its modifications, like preheat on or off, which is convenient. In other bread makers, browsing through beeping menus every time the unit is on seems a bit annoying.Quality of dough and bread is good even for standard programs and an average “Selection” or “Compliments” flour from Food Basic or Price Chopper. The crust is NOT too dark if “light” is chosen. The loaf is NOT too heavy. I think the problems other folks have reported (the crust was too dark or uneven, bread much higher on one side, too hard etc.) were mostly due to their recipes or measuring errors, – if their units are not lemons, of course. Mine is apparently not. That custom programming allows to bake beautiful loafs, perfect, absolutely fantastic.To illustrate what can be achieved by using the breadmaker’s custom programming, I have added some images to the “Customer Images” section. They clearly show a good performance of the machine even in preparing some of the healthiest and best tasting (but also most demanding) types of bread, including old Russian style rye sour dough bread and whole wheat sore dough bread.Recipe book and the instructional DVD are nice to have, even though I am mostly using my own recipes.The paddles are made in such a way that they do not stick inside the loaf – a really nice feature that I have not seen in any other bread maker.Cleaning the pan is exceptionally easy comparing to the other brands. Just soak for half an hour or so in warm water, the blades are going off easily.Now some potentially weak points. The bread pan will probably need a replacement in a year or two – but this is true for any bread maker I have seen. A stainless steel pan and paddles, by the way, would make the breadmaker even more attractive. There are no additional side supports for the bread pan (thus the bottom mount experiences higher loads), – but, on the other hand, it makes the pan insertion and removal more convenient.Nice looking, well designed, convenient, reliable, fool-proof. In summary, this is the best bread maker I have ever had.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After a while ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~December 2, 2012, more than a year after my happy purchase. As I expected, the bread pan and the paddles proved to be the weakest point of the bread maker. After I paid a ridiculously high cost of the replacement pan and paddles (around $110), I found that the replacement blades themselves, like the original ones, are also being heavily worn during mixing, especially at their upper part, from inside the hole. Since they are made of aluminum, it results in releasing of toxic aluminum into the food, which is not acceptable.I could only wish both the pan and the paddles were made of a less toxic material. In the meantime, I simply took off the blades. Now I am mixing the dough manually in a ceramic bowl (it takes about 5 minutes), then I put the dough in the pan with the blades removed and launch a simple custom program (say, 20 min preheat, 2 hrs to 2 hrs 30 min rise and 1 hr 10 min bake). Thus, no mixing, no toxic metal release in my food and no wearing of the precious bread pan. By the way, it seems that release of aluminum into the food is a common problem for all bread makers, since the pan and paddles are made of aluminum and are wearing out while mixing the dough. Since aluminum is heavily used in food industry, commercially available bread is probably contaminated with aluminum, too. Fortunately, the design and programming of the Zojirushi bread maker was flexible enough, so I could circumvent the aluminum problem. For that custom program, the machine also allows to set the crust control. I noticed that after the brief manual mixing, the bread rises less than after the machine mixing, which may sometimes be even advantageous. The texture and taste are also different, but very good, too.
I’ve never liked the taste of bread machine bread. You can tell.I don’t know if it’s because this is a horizontal bread maker or if it’s because we use their recipes with dehydrated milk, but it’s one of the best breads we’ve ever had.
I purchased this machine given the number of internet reviews specifically for gluten free break baking, so this review will be specific to this, as I haven’t used it for anything else.The double paddle design is perfect for gluten free bread dough, as, for those of us who have done it by hand, you know how much mixing is required, and how gluey the dough can get. Despite the double paddle (which reverses direction every so often to avoid piling the dough up on one side) you do still need to give it a little push mid way through mixing to ensure all the flour and starch is incorporated into the dough…not a big deal, at all. Something to consider if you expect to throw everything in and use the timer function. Although if you use fresh eggs in your recipes, you can’t do this anyway, or the eggs will likely spoil.I love the horizontal loaf pan! I used to use another bread machine that made those torpedo loaves, but it didn’t really cut it for gluten free breads. I’ve been using recipes from a gluten free bread recipe book that includes bread maker instructions for my main recipes. I find the gluten free recipes included in the manual are too rice flour based for good bread, and are too gritty, like rice flour bread generally is. I just follow the machine instructions for the order for putting in the ingredients, and use the recipe book measurements. Works perfectly! This is the recipe book I’ve been using –>  The Gluten-Free Gourmet Bakes Bread: More Than 200 Wheat-Free Recipes Given that gluten free dough doesn’t need a second rise like wheat dough does, there is a program function that will allow you to turn off the second and third rise, and program the amount of time the machine prewarms, mixes, and bakes. The crust selection is also handy, although I find I typically use the medium selection all the time…but it gives you the option for darker or lighter crusts, depending on your tastes. That being said, the quick wheat selection does well for my recipes…all I do is remove the paddles using teflon coated tongs once the mixing cycle is complete (plus it also keeps the big paddle holes from forming in your finished loaf). It also beeps during the mixing setting to alert you to when you can add seeds, nuts, fruit, etc to your bread, should you want to. You can’t turn it off, though…The only drawback is that it is more expensive than most other bread makers on the market. Personally, I think it was a great investment for me. Gluten free breads are notoriously expensive to buy, and I love the fact that I don’t have to heat up the house, especially in the summer, to bake a loaf of bread in the oven. Once the mixing is done, I can just leave it to do its thing for the rest of the time it’s baking. It’s fairly quiet while it’s mixing…I think my microwave is louder when it’s on. I love this breadmaker, and have been incredibly happy with how the gluten free loaves have turned out.
I’ve had this bread machine for over a year and I use it at least once a week. My standard recipe is a simple sourdough on the regular setting (I’ve never tried the sourdough setting – it seems like a useless extra), plus pizza dough and various ryes and brown breads when I’m feeling adventurous. My standard recipe plus the pizza dough never fails.I purchased the Zojirushi after a lot of research. My previous bread machine was a refurbished Regal model that lasted over ten years. The Zojirushi came up as the premium model with good reviews on many sites. I picked it because it seemed reliable, I liked the rectangular loaf pan, and it had lots of options.General Observations:Counter footprint is okay – not overwhelming, but not really “space saving” either. Machine looks nice and sleek, a bit like a large lunchbucket. It’s heavy, so I keep it on the counter. It’s not a small appliance but the shape is narrower than my old breadmaker so I’m happy.I don’t bother with the room temperature thing where you have all the ingredients sit in the pan so they get to the same room temperature. It takes a little figuring to turn it off, but once it’s off, it stays off. Otherwise, the bread would take almost 4 hours to make.Advance setting (future bread timer) has screwed up once or twice and baked unmixed bread. I’m not sure that I can blame this on the machine, though.I’ve never put the pan in the dishwasher. Doesn’t need it – it cleans up quickly.I’m able to “read” dough and don’t bother too much with the exact proportions or how the ingredients have to be layered. I throw them in any which way and it always works. However, for delayed baking, I tend to follow directions exactly and have had some misses.Pros:Loaf pan is awesome. I’ve NEVER had a loaf stick or break when removing it from the pan. Bread comes out smoothly each and every time with a few shakes. Don’t use it.Loaves come out slightly uneven as others have observed but this really doesn’t bother me.The coating on the upper corners of the pan is cracking slightly – kind of like a wrinkle? -after a year’s use. This does bother me.Conclusion: was it worth the extra $? I am not sure. I know that I am absolutely in love with the loaf pan and the structure. The thing that used to drive me nuts with my old breadmaker was how hard it was to get the bread out. I would easily pay $ for the dual-paddle loaf pan but, in retrospect, I wish I’d gotten a smaller machine with the ability to make faster/smaller breads. But only if it has this loaf pan.Anyway, so far, so good. It is easy to use so it gets a lot of use.

So much better than I expected. I love this bread machine. I spent hours online looking at the different choices and reading the reviews — negative and positive. I put it in my cart so many times, then left it there and came back a few times before finally hitting the “buy” button. The negative reviews really had me apprehensive. But since I’ve never baked a loaf of bread before, I thought I’d start with this one, and if it was a dud, I’d try a more expensive one.This was really “plug and play”. It’s ready to go right out of the box. I took the advice found in the positive reviews which was (1) read the manual from start to finish before trying out the machine and (2) make sure your measurements are exact and you follow the instructions and do everything in the right order. Weigh out the ingredients first and have them sitting on the counter ready to put in the machine before you turn on the machine.I read the manual twice (not all at once). I decided to try an easy white bread first. I went out and bought “bread machine” flour and since I couldn’t find “bread machine yeast” I just got some fast-rising yeast. The recipes say “vegetable oil or butter” and since I never use vegetable oil (or any seed oil — only olive oil) I used unsalted butter instead.It was so simple it almost felt like cheating.As to all the things I was fearing from the negative reviews: The machine is really quiet, compared to a blender or vitamix or food processor. It would not wake someone up in the next room let alone disturb an apartment neighbor.The machine did not walk off my counter or fall on the floor. It has four rubber feet that keep it in place — it moved about 2-3 inches a few times and I just pushed it back. (Intially I put it on a ribbed cotton placemat but I removed it after a while since it didn’t seem necessary and it actually moved less without it.I could tell the bread was rising nicely looking in the top window. When it started the baking stage (last stage) I could smell it in another room and went to see if anything was burning, but no, it was just some some air vents in the machine that let out some steam.When the bread was done I let it stay in the machine for about 15 minutes. I took out the bake pan, turned it upside down over a wire rack, and the bread fell right out. Nothing stuck to the baking bucket.This unit doesn’t come with a paddle removal tool, and the paddle did stay in the bread, so I took the screw part of a corkscrew and gently probed the bottom of the bread and it came out pretty quick with just a little hole in the bottom.I had set it on the medium crust level and the bread was browned perfectly.It rose really nicely.The bread was crusty on the outside and the white bread inside was not stiff or hardened.I sliced a piece off, tasted it and thought it had a really good, rich flavor. I put some peanut butter and jelly on it and put the rest in a plastic bag and left it on the counter overnight. This morning, I sliced a piece off, and it was still tender inside. (Meaning if you put you pushed your finger into it, it would create a small dent and then bounce back, or at least not tear). I cut it in half and toasted the halves. The toast came out great, evenly browned and I a scrambled egg on it.At dinner, a friend came over and tasted it and even though he’s not a white bread kind of person, he thought it tasted really good.One of the reasons I went with this model was because it’s dishwasher safe. But the pan was still so clean after baking the bread, all I did was take a dampen a clean dish towel and wipe the inside. Nothing stuck to the inside housing of the machine so I just ran the damp cloth over it and let the top up so it would dry fully.I know this is a long review, but I had so much angst from the 180 degree difference between the positive and negative reviews, I thought it might be helpful to another beginner like me who is struggling to make sense of the reviews. It’s not that I disbelieve the negative reviewers — I’ve certainly gotten appliances I thought had been previously returned or were duds for other reasons. But I am so happy with this machine so far, I really wanted to share it.I’m going to do rye bread next.PS If in the next 6 months, the machine falls apart or fails to perform properly or the non-stick surface comes off into the bread, I’ll come back and update.

The bread is good. This is the second breadmaker of this type I have purchased. The older one was purchased in 2011 and still works! The motor was groaning a bit during mixing so I bought this newer Hamilton Beach of the same type and brand. The bread is tasty and the hole from the paddle is small. It can be set to bake later, so you can wake up in the morning or when you arrive home, to a fresh loaf of bread. Clean up is simple. The pan rinses clean easily. Pictured is my first loaf from the newer bread maker. It is a 1.5 lb. rum-raisin loaf from a recipe I’ve had for some time. The raisins were soaked in rum overnight before adding them to the loaf when it beeped to add nuts, raisins or other add ins. There are just 2 of us in the household now so making the smaller loaf makes sense for us. You simply put in all the liquids first, then all other ingredients leaving flour an lastly the yeast. Make a little divot in the bread flour and then put in your yeast. I used bread machine yeast. Select your loaf size (1.5 or 2 lb), darkness wanted (light, medium, or dark) and press start unless you want to delay bake. When done there are a series of beeps and the loaf literally slides out of the pan when you tip it (using mitts). I use a metal crochet hook to pull out the small paddle (though you can buy a paddle removal tool that looks exactly like a crochet hook.) As you can see, the loaf is slightly horizontal and once somewhat cool can be sliced easily. Slices do fit in a standard toaster. The bread is somewhat larger dimensions than a standard sandwich bread load and you will need a bread bag from wider loaves you may buy in the store for storage. This loaf and most I’ve made in the past, slice easily and crust is a bit crunchy. You will want a good bread knife or other serrated knife. I find you can slice them quite thinly if you want to limit the amount you eat at each sitting. Quite a few recipes come with the machine and many I have made in the past with the previous machine. I haven’t really had a failure. In addition you can make dough using the dough cycle and fashion rolls or brioches from the dough that will just need the last rise. I keep a sourdough starter and found a wonderful sourdough cinnamon roll recipe online. I do know how to make breads from scratch. In the summer when I am really busy this machine is handy to make delicious FRESH bread. Note that your home will smell wonderful. There are more expensive machines, but this model has worked well for me over many years and I can recommend to any who just want good fresh bread the easy way. Also there is the gluten free button (I do have a grandson who tries to avoid gluten). Give this reasonably priced machine a shot. It works well.
Improved performance with adjustments. Worked well enough for the first year. Nothing really works by year-two. For example, the dough cycle does not make usable dough now … just a soupy mess. Basic bread cycle? It can’t get past just making more “soup.” I always weigh (and have always weighed) the flour and use fresh ingredients but to no improved effect.The first “Rate Features” is “Easy to use.” Zero stars reflect the fact that there is no “use” to rate.The second one is “Easy to clean.” This gets 5 stars because it really is easy to clean, both before when it actually made dough and finished bread and now when it produces “soup.”The third one is “Timer function.” Zero stars reflect the fact that the machine is malfunctioning, and I don’t know whether that is because of the timer or not.I would not recommend it, which is a shame, because I’ve had good luck with other Hamilton Beach small appliances in the past and had high hopes for this bread maker.Update: I decided that I would try again before admitting defeat. The unit came with two paddles, so I swapped out the one that I’d been using for the unused one in case there was an issue as to whether the paddle was seating well enough to mix ingredients. I switched back to regular yeast instead of bread-machine yeast. This try was more successful. I will keep the unit because it makes a good basic white bread, which is what I bought it for originally anyway.

I have never owned or operated a bread-maker before; this is a whole new experience for me. The instructions were straightforward and included a few recipes- none of which I will likely ever make- but that’s beside the point. Bread recipes are easy enough to get off the Internet, and I have also purchased a recipe book which is appealingly simple and uses only straightforward ingredients. The machine, as well as the bread pan and paddles were easy to clean…I did as recommended; I washed the removable parts and wiped down the interior/exterior, before running the maker through 10 minutes of a bake cycle to burn off that ‘new’ smell. And it did smell; I needed to run my kitchen fan to remove some rather stinky fumes….I bought bread machine yeast and multigrain bread flour before my bread-maker even arrived, so I thought I was all ready to go, but many of the recipes that come with the machine called for ingredients like xanathan gum, gluten and shortening, as well as some flours I have never used. Because I didn’t have these things on hand, I googled a recipe for a basic multigrain bread made using only ingredients I did have. I found a simple recipe, threw all the ingredients into the machine….and let me tell you…it turned out great! I honestly thought I might need to make several attempts before getting the knack, so to speak, but just by (precisely) following the recipe instructions, my bread came out evenly baked, with a beautiful, golden brown crust and a surprisingly soft and fluffy interior. I say ‘surprisingly’ because I expected my multigrain flour would produce a much heavier and denser bread. Other than a small ‘belly button’ in the bottom of the bread (from the paddle) the loaf was picture perfect and absolutely delicious…..Just FYI, the instructions advise centering the unit on your countertop (away from the edge), because of a possibility of the unit travelling during operation. Although my unit vibrated some, I personally did not notice that it moved much, if at all. It has rubber feet that gripped my granite counters quite well, but this is an issue to be aware of, especially if you want to use the timer to ‘set it and forget it’. I also wanted to add: I was surprised by how quiet this was throughout most of it’s operation. It isn’t totally silent, don’t get me wrong, and of course it was noisiest during the kneading cycles, but even then, the noise level was far from deafening. I was expecting it would be louder for some reason……All in all, I am thrilled with this machine and I cannot wait to try out new recipes now!

Excellent machine. I’ve made 2 loaves so far with this machine and it has worked excellently. I make breads with atypical flours and they have come out well. I haven’t noticed many of the issues the other reviews have. The final decision was between the KBS and this unit (Saki). I wanted a ceramic lined bread bucket not Teflon and these were the only 2 viable units for me. The KBS was a little too small for what I thought I would need. The Saki allows for much larger loaves and also has the elongated bread bucket making more of a loaf and less of a block. The last decision point was that Saki is a US-based company and KBS is based out of China. I prefer to buy as close to home as possible even though both are manufactured in China. The dual-paddle bucket works surprisingly well, it really kneads the dough. The paddles DO stick to the bucket shafts after baking and I suspect wiping them down with a film of avocado or olive oil prior to adding ingredients will solve that problem. The bread was a little difficult to get out of the bucket but I purchased a silicone spatula specifically to wedge the bread out. Also, oiling the shafts would have helped. I’m sure in time I will figure the technique out better. As for longevity I can’t say. My last bread maker was purchased in 1995 and still ran great. Hopefully this unit will too. Two year warranty if the unit is registered. Also a GREAT little recipe book came with the unit. Even though it doesn’t cover my specific flours, I can add the spices and such from book. Happy with purchase so far.
Best Bread Maker Ever. Update: I have to say the Saki bread machine has definitely exceeded my expectations after over 7 months of at least twice weekly use. I have used the dough cycle a lot as I like to bake in my Emile Henry large loaf clay baker. I also use it for pizza dough and dough for making rolls. For complaints of how hard it is to put the bread pan back in the machine, there is a very simple way to do this. Look at the two (2) round metal bread pan holders in the base of the bread machine and see the open slotted areas on each round holder. Then look at the underside of your bread pan at the two (2) metal knobs. Rotate each metal knob on the bottom of the bread pan to align with any of the open slotted areas of the two (2) holders in the bottom of the bread machine. Then lower your bread pan into the base of machine, push down until you hear (a click) and feel the bread pan lock in place. Done. This easy technique applies if your pan is out and you have already filled it with your recipe to put back in the bread machine to bake or for putting it back in machine after washing bread pan. It may take you several attempts to get it right but then you’ll be a whiz at inserting your bread pan every time. This machine is a workhorse with its 850 watt torque motor and is able to easily tackle any recioe for a 3 lb loaf of bread. Take the time to learn your Saki machine, experiment with any bread recipe out there and enjoy it! I also ordered an extra bread pan and another set of paddles. I believe the Saki will give many many years of service.This is my second breadmaker and so far I love everything about the “Saki”. Initially, I thought of going with the Zojirushi bread machine but the Saki ticks all the boxes for me. Love the smaller footprint than the Zojirushi, love the large digital display that is easy to see and operate, great recipe book and manual included, no sticking at all with the ceramic bread pan and the ceramic double kneading paddles. The Saki is extremely quiet w/ the 850 watt high torque motor which is a big plus and I haven’t noticed any movement at all during the kneading process. Love the loaf size options, color of crust, etc. I’ve had no problem having to unplug machine to turn off as some have noted. The instructions are in the manual. I used the medium color crust on this first loaf, but since have used the light crust which we prefer. I always take out the kneading paddles when the last rise is completed before the baking cycle starts. No need to remove dough, just lift up one end, remove paddle, then lift up other end and remove 2nd paddle, then close lid and cycle will resume. No big bread paddle tears in your bread, just 2 tiny post holes on bottom of the bread loaf.I have made several different types of bread so far and am extremely pleased with each. Look forward to trying the jam, yogurt and cake recipes as well. The Saki is a winner in my book.
Good bread, nice machine, quiet performance. I bought this to replace a bread machine I used happily for many years because it had started leaking and something inside started making a lot of noise. What struck me most about the Saki machine is that it is quiet while running and is easy to start using. I think the manual that accompanies it could be little more informative. If I had not used a bread machine before, it might have been harder to understand what was not completely explained. There are also not a lot o f yeast bread recipes included though there are some recipes for yogurt, jam and sweet breads. You can download the manual but it is the same as the one in the box. I made three loaves so far and they all came out very well. I used the dough cycle for one which I shaped and baked in my oven and made one of the 3 pound loaves and another that was 2.5 pounds which I had the Saki bake. The loaves were well mixed and baked well with a nice crust. The pan is more horizontal like a real loaf pan, which I like because it slices much better. I cut the 3 pound loaf in half and then in slices because it was fairly tall. There are two paddles like the Zojirushi. They are relatively shallow so even left in with the bake, they make holes in the bread, but not too large. The machine is less heavy than my older one and I appreciate it since I don’t keep it on the counter and have pick it up and put it away after using it. There were not a lot of reviews on this machine but I decided to take a chance on it anyway. It seems like a good choice. The proof is more in how long it lasts and I can’t speak to that yet. I will update my review if there are changes. I am hoping that the pan does not leak eventually, like my other one but that does seem like the weak point for these appliances. The bread came out of the non-stick pan easily. I had to do a short soak to clean the paddle spindles but that seems standard. Otherwise it was easy to get clean. I am encouraged by my experience so far and looking forward to using it regularly.

Es muy fácil hacer pan, masas para pizzas o pan de masa madre, adicional cuenta con un recetario (está en inglés) con el cual puedes hacer recetas a tu gusto. Tiene tres tamaños de pan, en los tres la cocción es perfecta. El panel es digital y es muy fácil de usar. Tengo ya un par de años con ella y sigue funcionando muy bien. Su uso es muy frecuente ya que hago pan y masas para pizzas de dos a 3 veces por semana.
The high wattage of the motor and size of the pan along with the double dough hooks were what drew me to this machine. Now that i’ve received it (I’m in Canada as opposed to most of the other reviewers who are in the US), i’ll point out a few things i’ve discovered.1) It does not come with a recipe book. You have to download it online. For a machine at this price point, it should should include a proper paper recipe book. The online recipe book is also incomplete with several recipes not fully filled in with amounts or say “coming soon”.2) The white bread recipe in the online recipe book did not work for me and was like a batter, not a dough.. It may have been written for a market other than Canada where flour is different. I will have to try several of my older bread recipes to see how they perform. It will be difficult finding recipes that will fit the large pan/programs on this machine so keep this in mind! Again, another reason i’m completely disappointed in the recipe book this machine provides.3) The sparse instruction book (or should I say pamphlet) is obviously written by someone with English as a 2nd language.4) The “simple” digital display is a bit too simple and somewhat puzzling For example, the crust colour button has a 4th setting that isnt listed anywhere so i’m not sure what it does or means!5) You can’t use this machine on the average countertop with cupboards above unless you have really wide counters. The long lid opens really high and you cant open it all the way without turning the machine sideways.6) The digital display locks after 1 minute and I couldnt figure out how to shutoff the lock so I could make an adjustment. I had to read through the pamphlet to figure this out as the obvious solutions on the keypad didnt work!EDIT: I’ve now tried several different loaves (using various reliable recipes) and not one has come out as well as my old B&D maker. The instruction book is useless – how long is each part of each program? How do I use the custom homemade setting? Dont even bother trying any of the recipes in the online only recipe book. The white bread has either too much water or not enough flour. The amounts of the ingredients in some of the other recipes are mixed up (1 1/2 cups of salt anyone?) Saki really needs to get their act together and give people proper information on how to use this machine! Do not buy this machine unless you are an experienced breadmaker user and have the ability to adapt recipes!

This works perfectly. UPDATE: after 1 month of making bread weekly I am still loving my machine. I am also getting better at making bread. You need to use bread flour and rapid rise yeast. I make sourdough bread and the basic white right now, but I am going to make every bread in the manual now. It takes using the correct ingredients and following the directions precisely and If you do that, there is no reason not to get beautiful bread that is tasty and good for you.First off I love how easy it is to make bread with this bread maker. It mixes evenly it cleans up easily. You need a small bristle brush (you can find here on Amazon) to get inside the paddles to clean or you will get discoloring on your bread otherwise it is easy to clean. I made the basic bread recipe and we like the 2 lb bread. It browns perfectly and the crust is crunch and the inside is soft. The bread is good for sandwiches and toasts nicely. I am very happy with this purchase. I do recommend you pause your bread on the 3rd rise and pull out the dough and remove the paddles and shape your dough. Then place back in the machine and restart the 3rd rise. You will have a prettier loaf with no big paddle indents. Well worth the money if you are health conscious and want to know your ingredients.
I’m addicted. I love how easy it is to make bread in my West Bend bread maker. I gave up on having fresh homemade bread when my hands just couldn’t do it anymore.4 days ago I made my first bread maker made loaf. I have now made 4. All have been wonderful and delicious. I saw in FB groups that several had loaves that had too soft of tops. So I experimented with putting foil on top of the window and draped a kitchen towel over it. Gorgeous. Beautiful loaves.
Makes large loaves. Our 30-year old Zojirushi bread maker finally broke. This West Bend had good reviews and was a good price. So far, we have made 4 of the recipes in the owner’s manual. All of those loaves were excellent. This machine has way more settings than our old one. Take time to read the manual. You can’t spray the pan with Pam, use a rough sponge, or put the pan in the dishwasher. It also calls for the water to be 80 degrees since there is no preheat feature. (That will be harder when using fresh milk but not a major problem once we figure out microwave times.) It also said to put 1/4 of any butter used in each corner of the pan which is different than just dropping a chunk in. When the loaf comes out of the pan, the bottom is tearing where the kneading paddles have been baked in. There is a tool to remove the paddles but it is still tearing. However, those chunks are very tasty. lol. Remember to check the loaf size, 2, 2-1/2 or 3 pound as it will default to the previous setting. We have baked everything on Medium crust and they look great. The unit is deeper than our old one so we had to rearrange the cupboard for it to fit sideways, again not a major problem. Our old recipes max out around 3 cups of bread flour. This one can take almost double that but the loaves are way bigger. We will have to adjust our favorite recipes to make larger loaves. (The smaller loaves don’t fill the entire pan and come out a little lopsided. The larger loaves are very symmetrical and look like they came from a bakery.) We had to get a larger airtight container to keep these big loaves in, again not a major problem. The see-thru lid is great. So is the count down timer. Cleaning the inside hole of the paddles was challenging until we got a bottle brush. Now any baked on dough comes completely out of the hole where the paddles attach. The West Bend did not get 5 stars in all categories but that’s probably due to our learning curve. We can recommend this unit and would buy it again. Enjoy.
Smaller than I thought. UPDATE 3I’ve found it’s best to bake on the light setting, especially if you don’t take it out as soon as it’s baked and it goes into the warm mode. It has a tendency to over bake the bread, especially if it has a high sugar content. My favourite recipes that I found online are Hawaiian bread, Portuguese sweet bread, an Amish bread and Pain de Mie. The recipes from the manual aren’t bad, just your regular type of bread. Our household has dairy and nut allergies so I just use olive oil, margarine, and soy milk (powdered and liquid) for recipes that use butter and milk and milk powder and while I don’t know what the original dairy would have tasted like, the breads made with the substitutes have been good.UPDATE 2I’ve marked one side of the pan and that’s the side of the pan that I align with the left side if facing front all the time. If you don’t move the spindles when you take off the paddles then it will easily align. I soak my pan with water inside (not outside) so paddles are easy to remove.I bought a smaller bread size machine for making smaller than 2 lb loaves and realized that the West Bend tends to overbake the outside so best to use the light crust setting. This pan and paddles have held up better than the paddle of my newer machine which has lost some of the coating on the paddle in spots but the manufacturer sent me a replacement.UPDATEI’ve found an easy way to align the paddles so it fits into the machine easily. if you look at the bottom of the pan, you will see three small circles – looks like places where the bottom is attached, two on one side and one on the other. You have to align one of the paddles so that the tip of it is just touching the single round circle, then align the second so the position is similar that is both facing the same direction. You should then be able to add ingredients and snap pan in place. It works for my pan, hoping all pans are the same.I’ve tried the delay start and that’s worked. I’ve also tried the custom, but there’s one setting that you can’t make 0, I think it was the second knead so if you only want one knead you are out of luck.I bought a used Oster breadmachine to see if I would like it – this was actually my second, my first bread machine I returned because it wouldn’t turn on – many years ago and that turned me off the idea. Surprisingly the Oster worked well – it’s one that makes 2.5lb breads but it’s vertical. I’ve made numerous breads with it and most came out especially the ones in the manual. I wanted a more horizontal type loaf and also a larger bread. This machine is a lot smaller, just a little deeper than the Oster, but shorter. The pan is surprisingly small. I compared with the Oster and it’s about 1.5″ longer than the Oster’s height.The Oster’s display is easier to see because it’s red lights, this one is standard black LCD display so it is hard to see in dim light. I’m trying it with the basic white 3lb bread recipe from the book. I had to add about 3 tablespoons of water to get it to form a ball – I used my own measuring cups and soy milk powder due to milk allergies, as well as oil instead of butter or margarine. The bread came out okay like regular bread. The light setting was good enough to get the bread nicely browned.I had slight difficulty getting on the paddles because the difference in shape is so slight it’s hardly noticeable until you try to get it on! There is a very slight flat edge and this has to be aligned properly with the paddle’s internal flat edge. The Oster has two distinct flat edges. The paddles are a lot smaller than the Oster’s but they do a good job of kneading the dough. I found though that the dough tended to end up a little more on one side than the other – the manual says it’s because it needed more water. I found it easy to insert the pan, just pushed it down straight and the counter it’s on is quite high – not standard height. It’s quiet too. The Oster can get a bit noisy and recently it’s started to squeal sometimes.The manual is very skimpy on recipes, especially for the 3 lb size. I think there is one only and the rest 2.5 lb and not many of that either! The Oster came with several pages of recipes. The layout for instructions on how to setup the machine for baking is lacking – buried in a paragraph. The sequence is menu (to select 1 to 12), then color, then loaf size (MCL for easy recall). This is where the Oster’s manual excelled, for every recipe it tells you exactly what setting to use. I don’t know what the newer Oster manuals are like, but the old one is excellent.From what I’ve read online, you can’t just double a 1.5 lb recipe to get a 3 lb bread, you have to adjust the yeast which is why it would have been nice to have more 3 lb recipes. With the recipe given the yeast was the same for a 2.5 lb loaf in the Oster.The true test would be to compare the same bread recipe baked in both I suppose.UPDATEI used the sweet bread setting and put in the ingredients for a 2lb banana bread from the Oster 5844 manual. The Oster has a longer cycle by about an hour. The Oster came out but I had to put the Westbend on the bake cycle since it wasn’t baked at the end and this ended up carrying it to the same time that the Oster finished. The interior texture was the same as that from the Oster but the outside was hard. I had difficulty getting it out, I had to use a spatula and pry and then make space on the side for my fingers to get under the loaf to pry it out! The white bread I made before came out easily.I will try a comparison using the sandwich bread recipe in the Westbend and put it in the Oster and see how it comes out. With the Oster I can most often put in any recipe that I’ve found online and it works, the Westbend looks like it might be a bit finickier.UPDATEI made sandwich bread using the recipe in the book on Medium crust and it was good. I had trouble putting in the bread pan and realized it was because in washing the pan some bread had stuck to it so I rotated the spindle and it moved the location of the spokes on the bottom. I had to rearrange them so that it would fit between the uprights in the machine and once that was done it fit.
First use was using the old fashioned bread recipe from the manual. I forgot to change the setting for loaf type, so it actually used the French bread timer – the loaf turned out perfectly (ate half the loaf while still hot before I remembered I wanted a picture 😆). Today I used an online recipe for whole bread bread. This time, I forgot to change the setting to 2lb loaf, so it ran the 2.5lb cycle – again, the loaf was perfect.Excellent crust for both loaves – white was light crust, whole wheat was medium darkness. Great chew, tender inside. The whole wheat did not rise near as much, stopping ~ 1″ from top of pan. The white bread was well above the edge, close to 1.5″. The white bread made excellent toast. I’m guessing the wheat will as well.During the final rise, I lift the ends of the dough to remove knead paddles, then shape the dough to the pan. This allowed for easy loaf removal from pan without tearing large holes. I found the loaf can still stick to the spindles, but I simply turn the spindle from the bottom of the pan a couple times, and the loaf comes right out. It’s all hot, so be careful.Very happy with this machine. It makes excellent bread, seems very forgiving for small hiccups (I still measure VERY carefully, which I believe to be critical, regardless), it cleans up super fast, and it’s fairly quiet. It does cause a good shake on a free standing sideboard, but stays put. No issues with movement or shake on quartz counter.I highly recommend this machine.Update: I tried using instant yeast instead of bread machine today, and found the whole wheat/all purpose flour loaf rose higher, and produced a less dense loaf, more like what you expect from major brands. Very pleased with this result (last pic)

This bread maker came with a 2 pin plug on I got a 2 to 3 pin plug and when I turned it on it whent bang as in the manual or on the bread maker it doesn’t say it’s 175v not 250v as for the UK. So it was a waste money .

This is my first bread machine and I’ve only made a few loaves. It does a good job and the bread is fine, I’ll play a little with recipes to get what I like best. So really no complaints there.Being a double paddle machine it’s longer and not so square shaped. The load if more “regular” shaped and for this is the main reason, along with price point, for buying this machine. I believe the rectangular shape of the machine also make it very stable. It doesn’t bounce or walk around like I’ve seen with some other machines (during my research before buying).My “but” comes with a two design parts of the bread machine. 1) the paddles almost always stay stuck in the bread; However, I’ve come to realize the little hook tool (key) that comes with the machine is to reach in and pry out the paddles from the cooked loaf. I watched a video on Youtube and they said it was too hook up the handle of the hot loaf pan. I found that funny at the time, and since my bread machine arrived and I’ve used it the “key” to fish out the paddles from the bread. This isn’t a big issue of course and probably common with most bread machines. 2) Having two paddles means having to align by paddles bases (outside bottom of pan) with the the two drive mechanisms of the bread machine. It’s not overly hard but after cleaning I always find that getting the bases in the grooves of the drive is a little tricky. The base is a straight, flat metal bar that has to engage into the drive which is a cross shape. Having two to align at the same time as I said is a bit tricky so be sure you get it right and the pan sits totally engaged, locked in and flat.This machine isn’t very noisy either. As I said this is my first break machine ever. However, I’m pleased with it’s performance so far. The non stick coating is very non-stick! Hoping that coating and the machine itself stand up to countless bakings 🙂

Love this machine. I purchased this bread machine as a replacement for an older one. I loved it immediately. It is compact, easy to clean, and makes delicious bread! The feature I like the most is that the paddle can be removed prior to a final rise and bake, so that there is no large hole in the center of the loaf. If you were thinking of purchasing a bread machine this one comes highly recommended. Worth every penny.
Arrived broken and missing recipe book. Besides arriving broken, there was an earbud in the box!! I have never had this happen before!
The Winner. This little Champ produces one heck of a good loaf of bread, conserves space, and only weighs 8 pounds!
Works great. Love everything about it. We’ve made about 10 different breads/cakes in it, only had one bad recipe, but we figured it out.
Not a good investment. The media could not be loaded.  I have had this bread machine less than a month. I am an avid baker, so I’ve already used it to make a few types of dough and lots of bread. Here are my takeaways:1. This cannot be used for 2lb loaves. Every 2lb loaf has had a huge hole in the middle. I believe it’s partially due to of the vertical design, but I have used vertical machines before without this issue. I tried swapping my yeast and flour to see if it was an ingredient issue, too.2. The machine has started to wobble off of its axis and gradually has been declining. I have probably used it 12-20 times, so NOT normal wear and tear.3. The light crust setting for a 1lb loaf is VERY light. A white loaf looked legitimately white when taking it out.4. The “add in” feature doesn’t seem to have an off switch but is extremely loud. It reverberates through my kitchen!5. The recipe book is a little basic. It doesn’t include temperatures or weight based measurements.Unrelated to the product, but relevant to cuisinart: When I initially ordered it, it came with a huge dent. The Amazon box was fine. There was a note in the package saying to call cuisinart with any issues. I called them and they told me they couldn’t help me, it was a shipping issue. Not a great start.
So far an amazing purchase!I’m not so inspired by the recipe book included this far. But willing to experiment a few others.The image included displays two loaves. The right side was made from the recipe book included but I did not use the suggested “unbleached flour.” For myself, I refuse to use unbleached but I did use RH regular white. I found it to be a very dense and a low risen loaf. And yes I followed *exactly* the measurements and procedure required.Upon a Google research, I did come across a different recipe that required bread flour. And 2 tbsp oil was used instead of marg/butter. And I added the 3 tbsp of the non- fat dry milk that wasn’t in the new recipe. As for the yeast, Amazon carries a great line which for quality and price point my choice was clear. The left image is the result of this recipe. To conclude, I will continue using bread flour. The bread bags are also available on Amazon and are good quality along with comfortable price point.This machine is absolutely brilliant and simple to use. I did not find that it moved all over the place possibly on the floor while in use actually very stable. I believe I researched enough of the brands sold on Amazon including reading reviews that this was the best choice. And the Black Friday sale was complete bonus. There was no break-in smell in the first use. I’ve only baked three loaves thus far and hope the machine will manage many more.Thank you Amazon!

Pros:- This unit is small and has all the settings we need while not taking up a huge amount of counter space.- It functions very well. We use the various settings regularly.- We haven’t had one loaf that flopped or didn’t rise yet on this one which happened occasionally with our last machine from another manufacturer. So, the bread quality has been excellent.Cons:- It makes a vertical loaf which is not as aesthetically pleasing but that’s a huge deal breaker.- The paddle doesn’t flap down and thus gets imbedded in the bread but that hasn’t been as annoying as we thought it would be.- Very noisy- It vibrates and moves around the counter surface, so you have to be careful how close you put it to the edge.Overall we are very happy with it and would buy it again.PS – I gave the flavour of the machine 5 stars but I haven’t tasted it… So, that is presumption really.
This product came with a USA plug/voltage so totally unusable in UK yet nowhere on the uk Amazon site did it state this. UK buyers do not but this product as it won’t work!

Great for making gluten-free bread. First off, I am an experienced bread maker but my one attempt to bake gluten-free bread was an abject failure. My wife cannot eat bread with gluten so after that failed attempt, I resorted to buying store-bought loaves, which were not very satisfying for her, but at least are recognizably bread lol.Fast forward 10 years or so, and those store-bought loaves were getting pretty tiresome, so I did some research and bought this bread maker along with a cookbook (The Gluten-Free Bread Machine Cookbook: 175 Recipes for Splendid Breads and Delicious Dishes to Make with Them by Jane Bonacci). I wasn’t sure how this would work out, and I figured there would be a learning curve but I would get there eventually.I was wrong. The success was immediate.I have now had this bread make for about 3 weeks and I have made bread 8 times; all attempts have been successful, and all but 1 have been delicious (more on that in a minute). The machine is extremely simple to operate: you mix the wet ingredients and put them in the pan, then the dry ones and layer them on top; make a little indentation for the yeast. Close the lid and hit the gluten free setting (#3) and stand back.It takes a few minutes for the paddle to start twirling, which confused me a little at first, but no worries. Once it starts, you need to spend a minute or so with a soft spatula (silicon) making sure that the dry ingredients in the corners of the pan get mixed in with the rest of the batter. After that, you can just go away for a couple hours and come back to fresh bread. It’s really quite remarkable. The loaves are moist, well risen, and very tasty. It’s as close to foolproof baking as I have found for this sometimes-finicky procedure. So far I have made millet bread (once), brown bread (twice), herb sandwich bread (four times) and a cardamom-almond quick bread (twice). My wife is thrilled and so am I, to the point where I hardly eat my regular old store-bought gluten breads anymore.The cookbook offers a couple useful tips that I think are crucial. The most important is to buy a scale to weight your ingredients. Gluten-free cooking is a delicate balancing act, and precise quantities are needed. Filling a cup measure with this ingredient or that can result in widely differing amounts depending on how packed the flours are; humidity (ie., moisture content) will affect this too. So I went to Walmart and bought a sleek kitchen scale for 20 bucks, and I would advise anyone trying this out to do the same.Another thing: the bread machine directions advise you to run the machine at “bake” cycle for 10 minutes and let it cool before using. This allows you to burn off the “factory chemical” smell and it’s crucial I think. Even so, the first loaf I made (millet bread) had a pretty strong chemically taste to it. Fortunately, I had made a second loaf right afterward (the brown bread) and this was much better, so we enjoyed that one. I’m not sure how to get around this–maybe another 10-minute burnoff? Not sure. It’s a minor thing, but worth remembering.As for the ingredients, they are all available on Amazon, or other markets like Whole Foods or even just ordinary grocery stores. You might not get every single ingredient for every single kind of bread at the local market, but hey, that’s what the internet is for.One last thought: Someone asked in one of the questions above whether this machine is “worth it,” meaning, I presume, whether it is worth the money. Well, GF bread costs about $7 per loaf where I live (Massachusetts). So I will need to make 14 loaves before the cost of this machine equals what I would have paid for store loaves. Of course, I will be buying the ingredients too, and they are expensive–so let’s triple the goal to 42 loaves before the machine pays for itself. Right now I am up to 8 loaves, and making #9 today. That’s in three weeks. So I’m guessing that this little experiment will have paid back its cost in about 4 months. When you realize that the loaves it makes are about 2 lbs each, instead of the 1 lb loaves I get at the store, then I will reach the “break-even” point even sooner–about 2 months. (And when you add in the cost of my own gluten-y bread that I have stopped buying because I like the GF stuff so much… well, it’s even sooner than that.)Overall, I am thrilled with this purchase and recommend it to anyone looking to make gluten-free bread. I haven’t used it for anything else and I am not likely to, so I can’t recommend it for that.TL;DR It’s a great machine for GF bread, worth buying.
Great machine for the price. I have now made four loaves of bread with my new Hamilton Beach Bread Maker. And I am never going back to off-the-shelf bread again. I have found nirvana and it is warm bread out of the machine with butter and strawberry jam. This is my second bread maker. My first was an old Panasonic, that worked very well, but it only had one cycle. This machine offers multiple settings, including separate mix, rise, bake, etc. If you are a first time buyer of a bread machine, this is a very good choice. I would also very strongly recommend that you buy Beth Hensperger’s Bread Machine Cookbook (also here on Amazon). The recipes in the machine’s manual are “adequate”. You will get much better results from the recipes in Beth’s book.The Pros:Good price.Does exactly what it is supposed to, makes exceptionally good bread.The mixing, kneading and rising all perform perfectly. The end result was uniformly mixed and cooked.The pan is removable, so it is easy to assemble the ingredients without spilling anything into the machine. (Put the pan on some newspapers when assembling for easy cleanup).The pan locks into place. When you put the pan in, you do so with it rotated about 5 degrees counter-clock-wise, and then twist it clockwise to lock it into place.The machine is very easy to operate. And there is a legend printed on the lid to tell you which each recipe cycle is. There is also an indicator on the panel that tells you which stage the machine is in (kneading, resting, rising, baking, etc).The cord is long enough that you can position the machine in a convenient location.Because of the shape of the baking pan, your end result looks like a traditional loaf of bread. Some machines have a square shaped pan… nothing wrong with that. I just like the aesthetics of a traditional shaped loaf of bread.The Cons:Neither the manual nor machine tells you the time for each phase that the machine is in, so it is hard to know when the first rise is done in case you want to check your dough for too wet or too dry, and adjust the ingredients. (Hint, for the basic cycle, it is about 55 minutes.)The baking element is right next to the backing pan, so that part of the bread will be darker / drier than the rest. It isn’t a big problem, but noticeable, especially on whole wheat bread.The paddle that does the mixing / kneading usually is embedded in the bottom of your loaf of bread. So you have to wait for the bread to cool and then pull it out, which leave a small divot in the bottom of your loaf. What I have been doing is trying to catch the machine just after the last knead phase, remove the dough (and shape it some), and remove the paddle, and then put the dough back into the machine. Problem solved.The top is plastic and seems a bit wobbly. I suppose the plastic helps keep the price down. And it seems to be attached well, so I don’t expect any problems down the road.The unit is fairly light. Again, this is probably to keep the price and shipping costs down. But as a result, the machine might walk across the counter some. I haven’t had a problem with this yet, but I have only made 1.5 lb loaves. The extra weight of a 2 pound loaf might make a difference.Summray: works as expected. I am very pleased with this machine and can happily recommend it, even with the shortcomings noted above.
Worked great the first time. LOVE THE SMALL SIZE. I made my first 1# loaf and it came out great. 100% whole wheat. I followed the recipe in the booklet but I didn’t have any dry milk or gluten flour, so I added about one and a half tablespoons of all purpose flour and it worked just fine. The loaf is about 4-1/4” high. I just LOVE the small size and light weight of this machine! I’ve had 2 other bread machines in the past, one being a fancy Zojirushi, and I like this better. The only thing this can’t do that the Z could is program in your own settings. And I never found a place to store the Z in the kitchen as it was so big and heavy and my kitchen is small. I love, love this Hamilton Beach. Simple, easy, small. The paddle did not come out inside the bread and it took some soaking and a little work to get the paddle out of the pan. The bread slid right out. The control panel is a little hard to read because it’s not back-lit and you need a light on to read it, hence the 4 stars for ease of use. I placed it on a soft rubber mat to keep it from moving while it kneads, because all bread makers do that. I learned from past experience that having a bread machine, any bread machine, on a Formica counter top can mar the surface because, as it kneads, the feet move around a little in the same spot. So, protect your counter with something and get one of these.

I put-off buying a bread machine for ~30 years because reasons, but I am very pleased with this purchase. The dozen+ modes give me every option I could imagine. Pictured here is my first loaf from the machine, using the Parmesan recipe. Because of the single-paddle design, even 1-lb loafs can be rather tall… Luckily I have a wide-mouth (4-slice) toaster, so I can turn the slices on their side. When I did the Maple Wheat I intended to do a 1.5-lb loaf, but accidentally did the 2-lb recipe. It was getting very close to hitting the ceiling of the unit while baking, but even the large size came out to perfection.**I live in Canada, I used “RH” brand bread flour. I used the recipe for the Parmesan bread, and subsequently the Maple Wheat bread recipe, (oh, also the pizza crust recipe) and used the full amounts of flour (3.5 cups for 1.5lb Parm loaf) and (1.5 cups whole wheat plus 2.5 cups bread flour for 2lb wheat loaf) and after the first kneed the dough was perfect, neither too dry, nor too wet. Of course, it’s winter, maybe in the summer time when humidity is up the story will be different, but for now, the “Canadian” alterations of the recipes seem unwarranted to me).I’ve been making my own pizza crust by hand for 15 years. I never got too caught-up in precise measurement of my water and flour, knowing that weather makes a difference. I think I know dough, though, and this machine does a great job of it! Just be warned your first time out that you might need to adjust your flour and liquid amounts, but as I say: 4 for 4 batches so-far using Canadian flour (one batch was a brioche that I made a recipe for on-the-fly) with the “American” recipe and I’m perfectly satisfied.Next order of business, 6 cups of strawberry jam to put on the toast!PS – it’s so nice having control over the rise, too! Now the drafts in my kitchen won’t slow down my bread baking, since the machine has it’s own warm little nursery to get that yeast to it’s happy place!

The Hamilton Beach 29885 is an inexpensive bread machine with a nonstick bread pan and a single kneading paddle. It provides 14 preprogrammed menu options for preparing bread, dough, cake, and jam. Its most intriguing program may be Artisan Dough, which kneads and rises dough for approximately five hours. 

Using this simple bread machine with many functions, you can easily make delicious artisan bread, dough, and jam, among other things. Add your ingredients, select a cycle, and press the start button to begin baking. After the bread has been baked, the maker will switch to warm mode to preserve its freshness. 

The bread machine has 14 settings, including artisan bread, gluten-free bread, French bread, whole grains, and many others. You can choose between three loaf sizes and three crust colors. The Hamilton Beach 29885 bread machine appears to have a 15-hour delay timer.

A Not Very Good Bread Machine. I really wanted to like this bread machine. Being on a small fixed income I have to make sure I am going to have as few problems as I could expect to have . The first 2 times that I used this the bread came out fantastic. The 3rd time the bread didn’t seem to rise. This time was my 4th attempt with using this bread maker. When I plugged in the machine I could not get the machine to recognize that I was making a 2 pound loaf. It took me 5 tries until it registered that I was making a 2 pound bread. I was hoping that this would be my only issue but that was not the case. I kept checking the machine to see if it cooled off and I was puzzled by the machine still staying very hot. I was even more unhappy because the machine started beeping and I never touched the buttons or anything else on this machine. I am so disappointed with this bread machine and I wish I never had gotten it. I had read the reviews online that said it was a well-rated kitchen appliance and I wish I could just give it back to the manufacturer because if something happens one more time with it I am not going to be using it. Maybe my machine is defective and not the norm for the manufacturer but it is the first and very last time I ever will get anything that they make. It is a shame that I have so little to spend and mostly make very good choices but this was a terrible mistake on my part. I should have gotten a better machine.AS AN UPDATE FOR THE MACHINE:I decided that after all the problems I had with the recipes in the booklet that came with this machine I would try to find a way that the bread could be better; not just in appearance but also how much it really needed to rise while baking. Thankfully it was a simple fix of adding in an extra 1/4 liquid. As for everything else with this machine I still am not totally happy with it but my opinion has been changed enough by the quality of the bread it now makes. I am one of the people who love bread (especially oatmeal bread) and I am using the machine once a week. The one big plus that I found is that this bread maker is easily cleaned up after baking. It still will not shut off after the bread is finished and who knows what would happen if for some reason I couldn’t be in my apartment to monitor this. All I know is that for a new machine it should work better than it does. I probably have a lemon from this company and I wish I could just snap my fingers and get all the problems fixed with just by trial and error. Just with the machine not shutting off as it should I still have so many regrets that I got this machine. I always go through as many reviews as I can and for a product that is supposed to be ranked #3 it should be much better than it is. I doubt that I would ever get anything else from this manufacturer and the glaring problems I see with safety because it doesn’t shut off as it should really bother me.

Works well, don’t like the loaf shape. This bread maker works well, the the loaf pan is deeper than is is long, so you don’t get that good top crust on most of the loaf. The separate nut and fruit dispenser is awkward.

Oh my goodness. Let me begin by saying this was my first time baking bread – EVER, and also the first time using a bread machine.I will say that it was a little bit intimidating, lots of buttons, number of programs, but like a true overachiever I read directions cover to cover. I did all things asked before first use. Yes, it did smell funny a little bit, but they warned about that. I have made 2 different breads before I set out to write this review. Of course I chose 2 recipes that had typos in them. For those who are desperate to try out French Countryside bread – it needs 4 cups of bread flour, and for those of you who want to try Apple Walnut bread – it’s 1/4 cup of brown sugar, not 4 cups of brown sugar.I followed directions, it was super easy in hindsight, but I was double checking everything as I was so nervous to both ruin the machine and fail at my first bread making. (Side note to those who blindly use the included cup. 1 cup is to their line, not to the top as most of the 1 cup(s) in any kitchen. I read a number of reviews with people complaining about their dud breads and I think it’s a user error and/or not fresh yeast or wrong water temperature rather than machine problem.)That being said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this machine. Two year evaluation: Recommend. I’ve used this machine for two years. A problem i had, early on, was due to a faulty electrical outlet and not the machine. It’s compact enough to leave on the counter, light enough to move easily when I need to. I haven’t had an issue with stability. It’s quieter than others I’ve heard in use. It makes a 5” square loaf and the pan accommodates 1, 1.5, and 2 lb recipes. The baked loaf drops right out of the non-stick pan. I switched from regular dry yeast to instant/bread machine yeast and like the results. The fruit and nut dispenser engages on all bread settings, and it’s noisy, but it only lasts a few seconds. Allrecipes.com’s Best Bread Machine Bread is a foolproof basic recipe for beginners or pros.

I haven’t bought a loaf of bread since I got this machine. I use it weekly to make bread. It’s a great machine and does an excellent job.
This is the first bread machine for me and I love it. It allows me to use bread mixes and to use my own recipes. The crust turns out great.Additionally, I make jams and yoghurt in it.It is sturdy and easy to clean on the outside and in terms of the removable parts. The inside is a little harder to reach but still manageable.The Noise is subjectively very tolerable. Definitely a good investment.

Although I really don’t know what the beeping is that occurs at 1 hr 42 min remaining on a basic loaf time is, is that for adding something to the top of the loaf? Who knows. I have never figured that out. But it makes a damn good loaf of bread and that’s what counts for me. I continue to bake bread with this machine twice a week. Perfect bread every time. They worked to resolve my problem and I have not had a problem since! I love the great texture of the Breadman bread machine bread, which is why I was willing to live with the struggles, but after contacting them the problem is fixed and I am back to making our favorite jalapeno bread 2 times a week – I have not had any problem whatsoever. I love it!I would definitely recommend this machine, it makes a delicious bread. Previous review: I owned a Breadman machine for 22 years, until the paddle support ring broke off. I couldn’t find replacement parts so I tried a few other brands of bread machines that I could find locally. None came close to comparing to my original Breadman. I was delighted to find this one! I do love the texture of the bread and the fact that I am very familiar with Breadman. I was thrilled to see the addition of a collapsible paddle to avoid those nasty indentations in the slices.I am very disappointed though that the paddle pops off many times during the entire bread making process. Every time I make bread I have to be nearby because the dough will pull the paddle off and I have to take out the dough and dig out the paddle, waiting for it to pause so I can work quickly to put the paddle back on and put the dough back in the pan. I have gotten very good at recognizing the sound when it has come off and is no longer kneading the dough.This is incredibly frustrating! Just this morning I had the paddle come off 4 times. 4 times!! I wish I could figure out a way to keep this from happening.This machine makes an excellent loaf of bread, I make fresh bread twice a week. I am never disappointed in the finished loaf. But I seriously wish something could be done about the paddle coming off.UPDATE: I make fresh bread twice a week. The paddle on this machine falls of at least 5 to 6 times with each loaf. Each and EVERY time.
Homemade Bread for the win. Breadman never disappoints. my original machine died after 8 years. This new one is even better. love how the inner baker turns to lock in and turns to unlock. Great Bread.
Obsessed With My Breadman. Once you get past the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread.. the taste will blow you away. The bread machine does everything I mean everything. You placed all the ingredients in the baking pan at the beginning and set the program walk away three later you have fresh baked bread! The first loaf of bread I made was milk and honey, second loaf of bread I made was cinnamon raisin bread, the last loaf of bread I made was brioche. I’m hooked for life! Use of timer works great but, if your bedrooms are close to the kitchen, the bread maker is loud and you can hear it go through the many cycles. Best to just make the bread the night before and wake up to fresh bread and coffee the next morning. I’ve purchased my last loaf of bread .. fresh bake for me going forward.. With simple ingredients organic flour, butter, sugar or honey, milk or water, yeast and dash of salt. Simple ingredients .. you actually know what’s in your bread and can pronounce all the ingredients. I make a loaf or two weekly. Thank you Breadman!
NO PADDLE IN THE BREAD. I have owned three bread makers in the past. All from different companies.My first one made loaves that were tall and looked funny. But I really loved the bread, and the smell that came with it! I finally wore it out. I hated digging the paddle out of the bottom.My second one was a tragic mistake by the company. It had an inherent flaw – bread stuck to the pan. Even after they replaced the pan for free – the second pan was even worse. I gave up making bread … because even when I finally got the bread out of the pan, I still had to dig the paddle out of the bottom.I really loved my  Sunbeam 5891 2-Pound Programmable Breadmaker , so much so that I actually recently purchased one for my daughter. It does many things the earlier bread makers didn’t, including quickbread and cakes. It makes gluten-free bread. It has fast settings and normal settings. And it even has a jam setting! It is shaped so that loaves come out looking like loaves. Only one thing I didn’t like – I had to dig the paddle out of the bottom. (sigh)And then – Breadman came out with this wonderful selection! A Bread Maker that does NOT leave the paddle sticking in the middle! Even more, it has all of the settings I used on my Sunbeam (although it is missing the cakes, which I didn’t use) AND the automatic fruit and nut dispenser!!! So I set my Sunbeam aside, and “went for it.” The bread maker of my dreams.How does it work?The feature works by creating a one-way paddle that collapses when it is reversed. So the paddle turns and kneads while it goes in one direction. At the end of the kneading cycles, the machine reverses the turning of the paddle and it collapses into the bottom of the pan.As a result, while you have the impression of the paddle in the bottom of the loaf, the paddle is not stuck inside of the bread! So don’t think it’s perfect, it’s just much better than before.Cookbook and manual:This comes with a wonderful manual that even gives a comparison chart so that you can use whatever yeast is available in your store. All of the recipes use standard yeast, so you need to adapt them if you want to use fast-rise or other variations.The book is also very clear on how to use the various settings.Even more, the cookbook included has a wide selection of recipes for every setting. I would recommend using the included cookbook before you go out and buy any other recipe book for your machine.I did have a “tiny” problem with one of the recipes – for cinnamon raisin bread. It reversed two of the ingredient amounts – showing 1/2 cup yeast and 3/4 tsp raisins. 🙁 The mistake was easy to spot, by someone who knows a little bit about bread making.Features:One of my favorite features on this (besides not pulling the paddle out and having the automatic nut and fruit dispenser) is the fact that it will make quickbreads, and even has recipes for them. My next trip to the store will be for bananas and macadamia nuts – for banana macadamia nut bread. :-)For me, this machine was worth it – just for the two extra features. Me gustó porque tiene el dispensador automático de semillas y no hay que hacer nada una vez que dejas los ingredientes. Es fácil de lavar aunque hay que tener cuidado porque tiene superficie autoadherente. No ocupa demasiado espacio porque es rectangular y no muy profunda. Automáticamente amasa, deja reposar a una temperatura fija y hornea. Tiene forma de programarla para inicio retardado y mantiene caliente el pan hasta sacarlo. La pala amasadora se dobla cuando inicia el horneado y solo hay que sacarla del pan una vez frío. Por el precio creo que es una muy buena máquina de pan. Tiene funciones de máquinas mucho más caras. Yo pagué poco mas de 2000 pesos mexicanos (aprox 110 dlls). Otras con funcionalidad similar cuestan más de 3 mil pesos. Hace pan de 1, 1/2 y 2 libras y el pan puede congelarse para irse consumiendo. El pan dura sin congelar, bien cerrado poco más de 7 días. Lo más importante es colocar las cantidades precisas en el orden señalado en la receta. Ya hice: pan blanco, pan de baguette, pan 100% integral, panqué de plátano, mermelada de fresa y pan multigrano. Se puede usar cualquier harina de trigo, pero recomiendo la de fuerza o alta proteína (al menos 13% proteína) para que tenga mejor consistencia y levadura de buena calidad. La hogaza de pan es alta, por lo que generalmente la parto a la mitad para que queden rebanadas similares a las comerciales. Hasta ahora puedo decir que ha sido una de mis mejores adquisiciones.
This is my second bread maker the first was a Sunbeam that stopped working in the first month. From the first loaf that the Breadman made I new it was a superior machine. The bread is light, fluffy and perfect. I make bread 3 to 4 times a week and have not had one bad loaf. The recipes are awesome. I have noticed that I need to adjust the recipes 1/3 cup more of water. The delay bake function works well and is easy to use. It is also relatively quiet when it is kneading the dough. We love the Breadman!

I would have given this 5 stars. It’s our second unit. The bread is quite good and is all we used during Covid. It loses the star only because their replacement parts are not available. The paddle and bowl should be available without having to buy a second unit.

The Breadman BK1050S has fourteen baking settings, including a function for artisan dough preparation. Perfect Combination of Price, Function, and Construction (5- Stars). I’m a bread machine junkie, having owned/tried numerous brands: Oster, WestBend, Hamilton Beach, Panasonic, Zojirushi, Breadman, Dash, DAK, Nictemaw, and now this Cuisinart. I also “need” (that is, want) three bread machines in the house so I can simultaneously make multiple loaves for guests and gatherings. I originally ordered this Cuisinart as a back-up to an aging Panasonic, but, after using it just a few times, I replaced the Panasonic with this as the workhorse in my kitchen. It’s powerful, relatively quiet, reliable, and built to last. It has 15 different menu cycles, including rapid bake, gluten-free, and jam. The only missing functions are a pasta dough cycle, customized program cycles, an automatic dispenser for mix-ins, and a yeast dispenser; those features are found in higher-end brands.I like that it bakes a horizontal loaf instead of a cylindrical or vertical one. The main differences among brands usually has to do with the timing (rising and bake) and the strength of the motor. This Cuisinart uses the correct rise and bake times to give a good crumb instead of a too-elongated or too-dense one. The motor doesn’t strain, even when kneading a 2-pound dough. If the hole in the bottom of a baked loaf bothers you, you can remove the dough when it beeps a second time, take out the paddle, and put the dough back in. I’m so used to that hole, however, that I never do it. If I’m going to bake the bread inside the machine, I just select the correct menu, select the size (1 lb, 1.5 lb, or 2 lb), the crust color, and push start. My bread comes out perfect every time, although newbies should be aware that not all bread machine recipes are created equal. As long as you start with a good recipe, you will be fine. (More on this later, if you’re interested.)Because I’m comfortable baking bread, I mostly use bread machines for the dough cycle so that I can shape and control the rise of my bread. It allows me to make pizza dough, focaccia, sourdough boules, hamburger rolls, Italian bread, cinnamon rolls, and other speciality breads and shapes. I love that the dough cycle only takes 1 hour and 40 minutes from start to finish. Most recipes will require a rise time after shaping, usually 45 minutes. Panasonic and Zojirushi, both premium brands, take close to 2 hours, 30 minutes because they add a 30 minute rest time up front that you cannot change, plus a slightly longer cycle in general. (The Panasonic has a much shorter pizza dough cycle that starts mixing right away but that doesn’t rise much in the pan.) If I want a sliceable, regular loaf shape, I let the machine do all the work, including baking. I find that a 1-pound loaf works best for sandwich-size bread, with the 1.5 lb size coming in second. The 2-pound loaf is just too high for my tastes, even though it bakes up beautifully.This bread maker comes with a recipe book that’s much better than most. Usually, the included recipes in a given brand are so bad that people give up and junk their bread makers. I always start with my own tried-and-true white bread recipe to make sure that the machine works properly: 1 cup + 2 T water; 3 cups bread flour (all-purpose will do); 2 T butter; 1 tsp salt, 1 T sugar, and 2 tsp bread machine yeast (one packet will do.) For softer bread, I sometimes add 2 T dried milk powder. If that recipe works well, I know the machine is a good one. Any failures after that are the fault of the recipe. All the recipes in the included booklet that I’ve tried have turned out well, whether baked in the pan or on the dough cycle. In general, when adapting a recipe, 2 cups of flour = 1 lb; 3 cups of flour = 1.5 lb; and 4 cups of flour = 2 lb. When I use the dough cycle, I almost always go for the 2 pound size.The dough paddle is more difficult than most to remove/insert, with a tight fit. I always soak my pan with the paddle inside for easier removal, but this still requires a bit more wiggling than most other machines. To clean, rinse with warm water, wipe to remove all dough residue, and dry. Because of the nonstick interior, everything comes easily clean. Never submerge the pan or put in the dishwasher.For those who are comparison shopping among the brands listed above: Panasonic is a great all-round bread machine with premium features; Zojirushi is the most expensive but also has the sturdiest build (I adore the small 1-lb model for sandwich loaves); Hamilton Beach and Oster are the best among lesser expensive models. This Cuisinart combines premium performance and good build-quality, with a lower price than some of the best models. It might not be as rugged as Panasonic and Zojirushi, but it performs just as well.If you want bread that is indistinguishable from by-hand breads, use the dough cycle to do all the mixing, kneading, and timing for the first rise. Then shape, rise, and bake in your oven. If you want the convenience of a warm, ready-to-slice bread, use the appropriate cycle to bake inside of the machine; it’s especially decadent to use the timer to have the bread finished the next day at breakfast time.I find that this Cuisinart bread maker is among the best I’ve tried in this price point, even though it lacks an automatic dispenser for nuts and fruit, the only feature I truly miss since I have to be around when it beeps to add the mix-ins. 4+ years later… I still love it. Well it’s about time I put a review for the machine I used every other day for 4+ years!This is so easy, I mean EASY! My family needs bread every other day and it never feels like a chore to make the bread. Put in the ingredients, I watch knead for th first 5 minutes…but not needed just a habit I have formed over the years. The beeps are loud so that you can hear when to add nuts or remove the paddle. And it smells WONDERFUL having fresh bread baking. Over the years I have used every type of program on it. Low carb is really wonderful, I would recommend! We usually do a traditional white or wheat and comes out consistently ever time. I have also use it just the knead and do a first rise on the bread, and finish it in my oven for a special loaf. This machine is used a lot!! When I purchased the machine it came with a little book of recipe book. We still use it!Selecting the different types of bread is 9 out of 10. Yes you have to push a button a few times for each type. But not an issue.Cleaning 10 put of 10. Put in my dishwasher and comes out perfect. We also wash the bucket once a week. The bread comes out clean so I don’t feel the need to wash every time. Once a month, wipe with a moist cloth the inside and out. Keeps it nice looking. “Set and forget” 8 out of 10. I ranked this a bit lower than perfect because sometimes if you don’t put in the correct amount of ingredients, you can have flour in the corner. I account this to user issue but something to remember. Doesn’t ruin the bread, but picky toddlers notice. 🤣 This is why I watch it the first 5 minutes to be sure.Paddles left in bread 8 put of 10. Now this is user preference. There is a paddle that kneads and mixes the bread. Is it big? Yes, of course it is! But is it too big where it has this huge hole in the bread? Not at all. We do half and half of taking the paddle put and there is no issue for us to leave it or not. If you leave in the paddle you to let gravity and some shaking to get the loaf out. Having a loud beep when you take out the paddle is a HUGE bonus!If you are on the fence of buy this, do it. Knowing exactly what is in your bread, no high fructose corn syrup, and fresh loaf a few hours away is worth it. It really is easy to get bread at home! Get a quality bread box, high quality bread knife (A MUUUUUSTTTT to limit the crumbs and doesn’t crush the loaf!!) and a cutting board (many bread boxes have cutting boards as the lid). You will love it for years to come.

I waited a while to review this bread maker so I could give an honest review. This is an excellent machine. The recipes in the book are close to perfect but still need some user tweaking. USE THE LIGHT CRUST SETTING!!!!! I can’t stress this enough if you’re using it to bake the bread as well as kneed the dough. Very happy with this and love the ease of cleaning. The timer settings to remove the paddle or add items to the needed dough are excellent as well. You’re guaranteed to hear the alarm!

La maquinita funciona bien, viene con taza y cuchara de medidas. Incluye recetario, en inglés. Durante sus ciclos la máquina puede pedirte que hagas algo, como agregar ingredientes, remover la aspa, o acomodar la masa. No puedes solo dejar la maquinita y esperar a que termine. A menos que la forma del pan horneado no sea problema. La máquina puede necesitar levadura, el polvo de hornear no levanta tanto, al menos en mi caso, con pan salado.

EXCEPTIONAL. This is my second Hamilton- Beach breadmaker. I replaced my first one (which still works well) because this newer one has some newer features and is stainless steel). The newer features include more loaf size choices, a few more types of items to make, and – most importantly – automatic seed/fruit inclusion – so you don’t have to wait around for 25-30 minutes before adding seeds, etc. The only “odd” thing with this model is the “start” button: Apparently you have to hold it down for a few seconds, let up, and then push it again to start. Not a big deal but this is not mentioned in the instructions. The cycles are a bit longer – about 30 minutes for the same recipe in my older model – but, again, that is not a dealbreaker. And finally my older machine came withan extra paddle – but there is just one with the new machine. New bread bakers will love this machine and “we older” bread bakers will use it occasionally, and for partial aspects of breadmaking. But I would not be without one, as you can make a loaf of bread quickly – and/or overnight with the delay option, which is really convenient. It’s also very nice to wake up to a warm loaf of newly baked bread.Bread machines (all of them) work the same way, and produce a good loaf – not exactly the same texture as “regular” loaves – but certainly loaves that are good tasting, simple and easy. The price of the H-B machine is probably the best of all comparable machines and is the only bread machine brand that I would buy.UPDATE: There are some on here who have complained that the “start” button does not work. Well yes and no. The directions are not clear on this point, but in order for the start button to work immediately, you must first program in crust, loaf size, and the cycle number – each time – before hitting the start button. Also, you must unplug the machine every time after you are done with it (I have mine plugged into a “strip” with an on/off switch). These are not dealbreakers – just quirks.
It takes the work out of bread making. Great warranty. Works like a champ. You can make a variety of loaf sizes. The instruction booklet comes with several recipes. I have found better recipes (videos) on the internet that use milk and egg for a heartier loaf of bread. There are multiple settings. For example, you can toss all the ingredients in, hit start, and wait for your fresh-baked bread; or you can use the bread machine as the workhorse to mix and knead artisan bread dough, then shape your loaf or rolls yourself and bake in your conventional oven.
Great Value Consistent Results. Like other users I have a little difficulty with the knob settings, but that is my only complaint. This is a very good breadmaker at a modest price point. It makes perfect pizza dough and I am impressed with the perfectly baked white bread, 1.5 lb loaf works the best. I love to make bread by hand but sometimes just don’t have the time – this is a nice product for those days. Considering that a mediocre loaf of store bought bread is about $5, this machine quickly pays for itself!

Cheap. I bought this brand because that’s what I had before and it was awesome. This bread maker however is super lightweight, made extremely cheap and is really really loud! They sure don’t make them like they used to
Easy to use. I just got this for my birthday and made my first loaf today. Easy set up. The directions are easy to follow and my bread came out perfect! I used a recipe I found a lot of recipes online on The Spruce Eats.

I make bread and dough with it regularly. Comes with recipe book that will have you producing your first piping hot fresh loaf of bread in a few hours. This gizmo is plug and play, insert ingredients correctly and accurately, voila! you’ve got bread. You can access the dough in process to make adjustments if you’d like. I also use it to make different types of dough, many different types, so I have no need for a Kitchenaid type stand mixer. Good little unit.

I loved this bread machine at first (for just under a year), it was working impeccably with child-proof bread preparation and always delivered the same result: perfect whole-grain bread with pumpkin seeds that even my 1-year-old adored. We even offered one to my mother-in-law. I put the ingredients in the machine every few evenings and woke up to the fresh bread smell. Until……Until it started waking us up during the night with its horrible screeching sound that got worse and worse. I started using the machine only during the day (no more waking up to fresh bread) and then that got too bad and I reached out to the customer service. They sent me a new model without the nut dispenser. I thought to myself “well I’ll just put the pumpkins seeds in right away” — not that simple. Even if I put them in after the first cycle as I’m supposed to (which means I can never prepare it overnight), it’s always a big mystery what result I’m getting: one day it goes way over and makes a terrible hard-to-clean mess (see the photo) while the top isn’t even baked, the other day it barely reaches half the container and the entire bread seems half-baked and unsafe to eat. I even bought a high-precision scale for this purpose and always follow their same original result like I’m supposed to. While I could be super NOT precise with the original machine and the bread was always perfect!So I reached out to the customer service again and what happened? They sent me the same new model machine once again!! Seriously?!? I now have 3 bread machines and none of them does what it’s supposed to! I’ve asked for a refund or a credit for their store — they keep saying that bread machine is “unavailable” but it’s still obviously available to order on their website as well as here on Amazon… and that they “don’t do refunds or credits” — even if their product doesn’t meet the customer’s satisfaction? And with a 5-year warranty?I’m just utterly disappointed with their attitude, I bought the machine BECAUSE of the nut dispenser and the simplicity of operation — now both of them are gone and my making-bread experience that used to offer me joy is just something I dread. We own a small business as well and always solve the customer’s problem, one way or another. This is not the way it’s done. I’ll stay away from this brand and recommend you to do the same.
This is a decent, but not extraordinary, bread maker. It works as advertised and is great for yeast based breads. The manual includes a handful of recipes, but not for every option. I would have liked to see recipes for artisan, dough, cake, jam etc.You can absolutely make bread with this, but unless the dough is baked in an actual oven, the crust won’t be comparable to what an artisan loaf would give you.I’m using the machine to bake yeast doughs but when it comes to sourdough I prepare the dough with the machine and bake the loaf in my actual oven.A few things that I noticed so far:- the display is difficult to see without leaning right over it. I’m 6’ tall, but someone shorter might have to stand on tiptoes.- the machine fits on my counter (cabinets above) but I have to move it forward to open the lid.- the bread pan seems large enough for a 1.5 lbs loaf but I wouldn’t make anything bigger in it. The raisin bread I made was 1.5 lbs and the dough extended well above the top.- the fruit&nut dispenser has a metal flap that opens, but won’t close before baking, allowing the heat out and I wonder if that’s on purpose. I made raisin bread and the sides were well baked but the top is pale and a bit soft.- the heating coil in the bottom is exposed and makes cleaning harder. Make sure to fill ingredients in the baking pan BEFORE setting it in the machine.- the buttons below the display are not as easy to clean as a smooth plastic covered panel. Little ridges attract flour dust etc.- the “dough only” function works for yeast doughs (like pizza), but is too short for sourdough. Meanwhile the “artisan” dough option seems best for sourdough but takes 5 hrs and that doesn’t include baking.- I wish the manual would show the exact time intervals for each program and how long it kneads, rises, etc. It would make it much easier to allow for the dough paddle to be removed before the last rising interval.- I now know I would have liked a custom function to set the knead/rise/bake cycles myself and to time it better. But machines that offer this are much more expensive.

Other Hamilton Beach bread machines, including the 29885, lack a mix-in dispenser. 

This is the first Hamilton Beach bread machine with an automatic fruit and nut dispenser. Furthermore, this may be the first Hamilton Beach bread machine with a knob for adjusting various settings. 

In conclusion, the Hamilton Beach 29888 is more expensive than its counterparts. However, a few additional dollars will purchase you a stainless-steel bread machine with an automatic mix-in dispenser and an artisan dough cycle.
