I think slow-cooked food tastes better when done in a slow cooker instead of an Instant Pot. There are also a few other reasons for this: 

  • Most slow cooker pots are made of porcelain or ceramic. Stainless steel is used to make Instant Pot pots. 
  • Slow cookers heat food from the top, sides, and bottom. Only the bottom of the Instant Pot heats up. 

Ready to use your Instant Pot to make a tasty, slow-cooked meal? With a few minor changes, the process is like using a traditional slow cooker. 

  1. Place the ingredients in the inner pot, and then put the inner pot inside the housing of the Instant Pot. 
  2. Close the lid and turn the steam release handle to the “venting” position. (You can also use a tempered glass lid for the Instant Pot.) 
  3. Plug your Instant Pot in and press the “Slow Cook” button. 
  4. Use the + and – keys to set the cooking time you want, anywhere between 30 minutes and 20 hours. 
  5. Use the “Adjust” button to choose the cooking mode you want. (Some smaller Instant Pots do not have this button. To change the setting, press the “Slow Cook” button instead.) The Instant Pot has three settings for slow cooking: Less, Normal, and More. These settings are like Low, Medium, and High on a regular slow cooker. 
  6. The Instant Pot will start cooking 10 seconds after you press the last button, and when the timer runs out, it will automatically switch to “Keep Warm.” Keep Warm and stay on for up to 10 hours. 

That is all there is to it! Like a regular slow cooker, your Instant Pot will keep a low, steady temperature to cook your food over a few hours, so you can go about your day while your meal cooks itself. 

Double-check your favorite recipes for doneness. 

It is usually a clever idea to check the internal temperature of a slow-cooked dish to verify that the contents are evenly heated. Still, this step is especially crucial when using an Instant Pot. 

There are significant distinctions between an Instant Pot and a conventional slow cooker. For starters, a classic slow cooker pot is often composed of thick porcelain, so all sides of the bowl heat up and cook the food. The thin metal pot does not get as hot as an Instant Pot, so the bottom of the food is cooked. 

In addition, the Instant Pot’s temperature settings differ from those of a slow cooker. The following temperature ranges are listed for each set by the manufacturer: 

  • Less: 180-190°F 
  • Normal: 190-200°F 
  • More: 200-210°F 

The low setting on a conventional slow cooker is typically around 190°F, while the high setting is roughly 300°F. As can be seen, the settings for the two appliances may not correspond exactly, so it may require some trial and error to duplicate your favorite recipes. 

Due to these factors, slow cooker dishes often take a bit longer to prepare in an Instant Pot, and you will need to check the interior temperature of your food before serving to ensure it has reached a safe temperature. 

Tips For Using Your Instant Pot As A Slow Cooker 

  • Always ensure that the recipe contains a minimum of 1 mug of liquid.
  • Activate the Instant Pot’s Slow Cook function and press the change button to adjust the cooking time to “normal” or “high.”
  • If you wish to cook a recipe on low in a slow cooker, set your slow cooker to “typical” on the slow-moving stove function and simmer for as long as the recipe calls for cooking on low.
  • If you want to prepare a meal as you would on a slow-moving stove, set your slow cooker to “high” on the slow-moving stove setting and cook for the time specified in the recipe PLUS 15 minutes every hour.

What’s not to love. I’m not new to electric pressure cooking, I have owned a predecessor for over 10 years now! The Ultra instant pot 80 hit several points that the other one did not.1. Stainless Steel inner pot! There is so much to love. It doesn’t stick, and I don’t have to baby it. Cleanup is a breeze.2. Pressure release valve and sealing system. Like early IPs, my other EPC had a pressure release valve that you had to handle. If you weren’t careful it could burn. Thankfully this never happened to me, but the IP Ultra is safer with the separate release. Also it sets the seal when you close it. No need to guess if it’s right.3. Larger capacity! My family may be growing soon and my teenage boys already have appetites that challenge many of my larger pots. The increased capacity of the IP Ultra 80 over the standard 6qt pressure cooker is just what I needed. And even if we don’t “grow” now I have room to entertain.4. Additional settings. I am not planning to get rid of my slow cooker, or stainless electric skillet, but the yogurt maker, rice cooker, and bread maker are going as well as possibly my ceramic bean pots. I just don’t see myself using them anymore. The other pressure cooker I mentioned above will be going if I cannot replace the inner pot with stainless steel.4. Abundance of recipes, cookbooks and online support. Every thing I look up, I find help online. This is very valuable. It’s almost like cooking lessons. Even things I didn’t think of trying before, I find them easy to attempt with my IP Ultra 80.5. The smiles on my family’s faces when I cook, and the smile on my face that it didn’t take forever. Cooking time is reduced by hours, flavors are sealed in and intense. I’m not as intimidated to try new recipes because there is less time to see the positive results. It brings some joy and adventure back to feeding my family.6. The ease in cooking clean, Paleo AIP meals. I recently have had to relearn how to cook for myself due to coming to an understanding of how to use food to help remedy my health problems. It isn’t easy eliminating foods you have always had as comfort foods your entire life. Especially for my children. But it’s notveasy to cook two meals. The meals that typically were “slow”, requiring multiple steps and patience are quick with my IP Ultra 80.7. Convenience. For me this is a must have appliance. I scored a cyber Monday deal and had this one delivered while we were on vacation. The savings of cooking in our condo paid for it’s regular price over double. Even though we were busy vacationing, I didn’t have to take a ton of time to bring dinner from ingredients to the table. The IP Ultra 80 is fast. I plan to bring this along or vacation in our travel trailer as well.8. Last but not least it looks and sounds nice. This appliance is a compliment to my kitchen. The black and stainless look fits right in. The blue LEDs and selector knob are easy and intuitive. The sounds are pleasant and helpful to know where the cooking process is as well as the display.Overall I think the IP Ultra 80 is great for beginners and experienced electric pressure cooker users. So far it has been a pleasure to use and I plan to get a lot more use from it.

YES, IT’S AS GOOD AS THEY SAY. UPDATE: I made Moroccan Lamb Tagine from the cookbook included with my IP. It was PHENOMENAL!!! I paired it with cardamom jasmine rice and yogurt sauce. It tasted authentic. The meat fell off the bone. My husband said it was better than our favorite restaurant’s. He said, “Okay,…I’m sold on the IP! Why would I ever want to go out to a restaurant when you can cook like this? You’re going to make me fat!” (earlier that day he had complained about the price of the IP and asked me why I couldn’t just cook it on the stove). I think I may have screwed myself out of going to nice restaurants for date night…Darn you IP!I’ll upgrade if IP ever comes out with a WiFi IP that can hold 7 quart jars and still reach 15psi. Otherwise, the Ultra does everything I need. I specifically chose this model for the “Ultra” function, which allows me to set temperature parameters other than the preset buttons. I don’t need the WiFi IP because the Ultra has a time delay function…and who really needs to control or check their crockpot from a phone app? The whole reason you use a crockpot is to set it and forget it, right? Although I like the sous vide function and 15psi capability of the Max, the Ultra can still sous vide using the Ultra function. The Max isn’t available in an 8qt size, so it can only fit 4 pint jars for canning, which is kind of useless. Plus, the reviews stated the Max takes too long to heat up compared to the other models, and the sous vide and 15psi functions were “suspect.” So, I’ll let IP work out those bugs before I upgrade. For the price point, the Ultra gives me the best value for my money.PREVIOUSLY: I received my 8 qt Instant Pot Ultra five days earlier than expected. GREAT JOB shipping it quickly and safely! It’s in perfect condition and all the extras were included.I did the initial test run, as suggested. It worked well. I will be cooking sous vide steaks tonight using the Ultra function, yogurt tomorrow using the program button, and pressure cooking something from the IP cookbook tomorrow night. I’ll update my review to let you know how it worked.I’m so glad I chose the 8 qt over the 6 qt. even though we’re empty nesters. It takes up less space than my previous crockpot. I plan on using my IP for weekly food prep and daily meals. This size will be perfect!I plan on buying all the IP accessories rather than the offbrand ones due to some of the problems others have encountered. It’s easier than most of competitors. Different choices and customizations. I gave it 5 stars but I still have to coment on 2 or more things. Before this instant pot ultra, I had StarFrit which was working great, I thought this would be an upgrade, yes it has more options than Starfrit which is only preprogrammed but this instant pot ultra still doesn’t have quick preprogrammed for potatoes or poultry, whenever I cook them, it a mess, they are fully of water and over cooked. For some reason I don’t know why it takes so long time for natural pressure releases. The steam rack is close to nothing, you can’t steam veggies with it, it’s too small, too short and can’t hold many things, if you are buying it you also need to buy a new rack from other sellers. An other point and very important, the metallic look on the lid is great but it get very hot when you are cooking and it makes the rest of the cover hot, it will burn you if you touch it.Dear instant pot designer, cover it with plastic for safety reasons on the next model and improve the steaming rack. Apart from that, it’s a great pressure cooker, it looks elegant in my kitchen. I gave it 4.9/5 Stars.
Definitely worth the money to invest in convenience and time savings. The Instant Pot isn’t exactly an all-in-one, since for some types of foods/meals/dishes, the traditional frying pan is much better, steaming vegetables on the stove is simply more convenient, the baking oven does a better job on most things, and a rice cooker is still needed since you can’t really cook two different dishes at the same time with just one Instant Pot.The Instant Pot is ideal for replacing the slow cooker for most things, but in my case I still prefer my Tiger Thermal Magic Cooking Pot for soups, simply because the vegetables don’t turn mushy at all. If I don’t mind mushy vegetables in a soup, than the Instant Pot is fine. The Instant Pot is truly brilliant for cooking super tender and mouth watering meats in a very short period of time (tried Beef Short Ribs, Chicken Winglets & Drums – all fall off the bone, incredibly tender, but sometimes overly as too much meat falls off the bones and your left with a bit of a mushy mess).I chose the Ultra series thinking I wanted the best that Instant Pot offers, but its not at all necessary. Why pay extra when all it gives you are additional programming, which you can easily manually set yourself. I still manually set the time on my Ultra, so there really isn’t any advantage in the Ultra series versus the lower model series. All the other models (Duo, Duo Plus, Max, Lux) are all acceptable. So really the primary decision all comes down to what size you want, and though 6 Quarts is great, 8 Quarts is much better for my family. With 8 quarts, I can easily make enough to skip having to cook every day, and thats a big bonus.The 8 Quart Instant Pot is quite big and heavy, but I love it. Out of the box it does look a bit intimidating, and pressure cooking has a history of scaring people, but this Instant Pot truly is very easy to work with. I quickly skimmed the owners manual, and was off cooking in no time, and I have yet to encounter a bad cooked meal. I search online for a variety of Instant Pot recipes and it makes it that much more fun, just to experiment, and to share recipes with other Instant Pot owners, which are growing in numbers very quickly.
This thing is amazing! A staple for every kitchen! Tonight we made Jamaican Curry goat in 30 mins, came out perfect!! There’s also an app you can dwnld, this is going to come in SO much handy when our newborn gets here. quick, fast and super easy. Super easy to clean too! And for all moms with yogurt addicted kids/husbands – this thing MAKES YOGURT FROM 2% MILK!!! Now it takes 8hrs to make but most of that is sitting and letting it culture – But Holy Hannah Im going to have a weeks supply of yogurt for 5$ – Mama like!
I will make no secret of it: I love my Instant Pot.I bought the 8qt Ultra and frequently make leftovers to store away in the fridge for days when cooking just isn’t an option.That said, the Instant Pot doesn’t come without a learning curve, so let me share a few quick tips for anyone new to it.1. Deglaze! After sauteing meat or veggies, there tends to be a little browning on the bottom of the pot. Add some water, broth, or other fluid depending on the recipe and scrape it up with a wooden or bamboo spatula! (You don’t want to scratch up your nice, new pot.) Make sure you get all of the brown stuff up before adding more ingredients. No one likes a burn notice!2. Is your pot reflecting rainbow lights from the bottom or does it have something a little stuck to it? Maybe it’s just starting to lose its shine. Soak with white vinegar for a while, then wash it out. The pot will look like new.3. If you have an 8qt pot, you’re likely going to come across a lot of recipes intended for the 6qt. No problem, but this might result in liquid levels being a tad low. If you aren’t sure, then add an additional 50% to the liquid levels and you’ll be good. Better safe than burn notice.Happy Instant Potting!

When it arrived, I was impressed by the Instant Pot Ultra 10-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker’s weight and size. While I could understand why large families and meal planners would enjoy the concept of gallons of soup stock or double batches of chili, I wondered if it had any advantages for cooks with fewer servings to prepare. I thought of the Instant Pot’s functions and features after using it for a considerable time. 

The lid with removable silicone seal, the stainless-steel inner cooking pot, and any of the included accessories (cooking trivet with handles, rice measuring cup, rice paddle, and spoon) should be washed before the initial use of the Instant Pot Ultra. 

After reassembling the components, the manufacturer suggests conducting a water test to confirm that the pressure cooker is holding. This also allowed me to become acquainted with the controls’ operation. 

This Instant Pot’s controls differ from earlier models due to a large display with a wealth of information. A knob below the show allows you to select the cooking function and its options, as indicated by the display’s buttons. Thanks to this method, I felt confident that I had successfully turned the warming function on or off. 

This model’s placement of the cancel button to the left of the control knob and the start button to the right is an interesting design choice. The cancel button not only aborts the cooking process but also undoes the adjustments you were making. Earlier versions of the Instant Pot lacked a start button; you selected your settings and walked away. If you are familiar with older models, you may need to train yourself to press the start button. If this is your first Instant Pot, you may find the start button familiar, as many other appliances also feature start and stop buttons. 

To hold the lid, the lid’s side handles can be inserted into the pot’s side handles (picture how a trash can opens on a hinge). I appreciated this design because it eliminated the need to find a place to set the lid while I worked. 

When the lid is removed and replaced, the quick-release button automatically returns to the sealing mode, an interesting new design element. This is fantastic for those who forget to set the steam release correctly and return to find that they have been cooking without pressure. 

Even though I didn’t anticipate needing the 8-quart capacity of the Instant Pot Ultra 10-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, it’s difficult not to fall in love with it. I enjoyed the user interface and the addition of the start button, which makes perfect sense. I would enthusiastically recommend this to anyone with space.

Excellent Rice Cooker So Far. We recently purchased a rice cooker from another company, I won’t name it but you might say that their art is cuisine. Rice was fine but it always boiled over. Washed rice, soaked it, didn’t wash, tried different brands, made a smaller amount, added butter or olive oil which is supposed to dissipate the bubbles, didn’t matter. We returned it and got this product (8-cup). It’s flawless. Never boils over, rice is excellent, simple to use. One thing to be mindful of is on the side under the hinge is a small white plastic water receptacle which appears to catch runoff from the lid when opened. Just remember to empty that every use or so. Couldn’t be happier and worth every penny! Truly set it and forget it, beeps when rice is done, cleanup is a breeze.

But I do like to slow cook, and I do often do sauces and such on the stove.My first thought for this was to simplify my stove cleaning. I have a new stove with stainless on TOP by the burners, and while it’s a different stainless than the rest of it so it’s a bit easier to clean, I’d still rather not have to. Sauces, things that may bubble or boil, having the option to NOT do those on the stove seemed a great option.We sometimes do box meals since I’m a single dad, and it turns out this was awesome for them. Added water to the sauce, added noodles, and let it rip.And here is the only reason I gave it four stars rather than 5. There is no way in the MIDDLE of cooking to change anything. I wanted to drop the temp for the last 10 minutes when it was just supposed to simmer on low. But I had to cancel the current cook settings, then set up a new manual cook job for the second half.I would prefer the ability to adjust that on the fly.The plastic housing around the outside of the base never gets hot, not even warm, so there’s no concern I feel about the countertop. The top DOES get hot though, and the handle on the lid does nothing to dissipate the heat, so you’ll always need to have something handy to grab it. There is nothing in the package here for that, although they DO include a couple small rubber grips you can place over the handles.This is SOLID. The top, the crock, it’s heavy and far more sturdy than the material my slow cooker’s crock is made from.I still don’t know if I’ll dump the slow cooker in favor of this, since the slow cooker I have uses a touch screen and lets me set more than simple things like HIGH or LOW and the basic 4 or 8 hours. But while it has more options, I don’t often need anything more than the basics since I invariably cook things over a 6 to 8 hour period when using them. Also, I have the Reynolds Wrap bags to cook with the slow cooker, so that i don’t have to clean it. But this was so easy to clean that I don’t think that will be a factor.Buttons were mostly consistent, and only a few times did I have to press twice because it didn’t register.Cord isn’t that long, but it’s no worse than my slow cooker so I didn’t LOSE any length.If you have a use for something like this, I can say that it’s well made and solid, and should do a good job with things you throw at it. I’ll be trying out more things in here as time goes just to see what options it will end up adding to our menu options here for my son and I.

Worked great, little slow. When I got this I was looking for a faster cooking rice maker. I didn’t read completely and this is not it. However, I am not going to complain because my rice came out fine. I have an Instant Pot and I try to make rice in it and always fail and burn things. So I was a little hesitant to get this Zest by Instant Pot cause why on earth do I need more than one kinf od Instant Pot. Well it works pretty good. I added my rice and waited for the timer to go off….which was about 20 minutes or so. I didn’t really time it but that is about the timeframe. I did 1 cup of rice and 1 cup of water, though I think the instructions said something about 1 1/4. It didn’t stick to the pot, like my Instant Pot had done previously. The rice itself was a little over cooked, but I think maybe adding less water ..just a smidge would have fixed that. I mean I didn’t measure 100% accurately so that could have made the difference. I did wash my rice before hand which truthfully I rarely ever do.I didn’t have the spewing at the top like others have said. I even put a paper towel down just in case. There was nothing on it. The whole system cleaned super easy as well. So I would for sure by it again. I have used it about 5 times now for different things…rice, oatmeal, quinoa, and even made a sauce in it.I got the 8cup which is really 4 cups dry rice. It was smaller than I thought it would be but actually works out because my family eats way to much rice. The keep warm setting though I don’t think you should use for long periods cause it will keep cooking the items in the pot, so be careful with that.

it looks good, cooks fine except one design flaw: when open the cap the water drain from the cap has no where to go but stay on the rim. some time it overflow to the inside. They should have it drain to a container as the other rice cooker usually does

Absolutely love this appliance! Made a pork roast and can honestly say it was the best I ever had! Not even remotely dry and tons of flavour. I have found today’s crockpots run extremely hot even on low setting and have never been able to produce a roast of this quality. Also made a delicious chilli – great to be able to brown and cook in one pot! Highly recommend!

In conclusion, we recommend proofing bread dough on one of the Manual settings, and we found the Dutch oven pot ideal for baking in the oven. However, we do not recommend baking directly in the electric cooker base.
